kritter -> editor doesnot run on XP 64 (12/3/2007 10:26:54 PM)

The game runs on XP64 why doesn't the editor? It tries and says it is not the operating system it expected. Can someone please fix it.

Sounds like an old program on a new OS. I will report this to the rest of the team.

Please do, Harpoon 3 and its editor runs on XP64, I do not know why just the editor for this game does not. Now that most of the chips are 64 bit you would think most software would run on a 64 bit operating system.

Well, I've stated it many times before but posts obviously get hard to find when there are lots of new ones.

The Scenario Editor will not work on 64-bit version of windows because 64-bit versions of windows don't have a 16-bit Windows subsystem like 32-bit versions of Windows have.

Your work around is to run an emulator such as VMWare and a 32-bit operating system inside of that in order to use the SE.

Why does the game run on 64 bit? Why not just recompile it? Is this difficult?

The game runs on 64-bit because 64-bit versions of Windows have a 32-bit emulator.  64-bit versions of windows no longer have a 16-bit emulator, that's why the SE doesn't run on them.

The move from 16-bit to 32-bit in terms of coding is not trivial.  Two very talented programmers tried and did not make it all that far.  I have a 32-bit version of the scenario editor I managed to convert from 16-bit but it is nowhere near stable or useable.
