Cossaky -> Cads and Missives!!! (12/5/2007 9:31:04 AM)

I was wondering if anyone knows whether the game has safeguards in place to prevent someone from repeatedly loading their game turn to achieve a favorable combat result?

Also, are communications informal (email?) or is there a built-in mechanism for sending messages between players?

Thanks!

Extremely important question. I once read an article in the General from the mid-80's regarding trust-issues. It was vehemently argued, that one should never rely on trust in mailgames - ever. Made very good sense. After a few fluke rolls (good or bad) suspicions would raise their ugly head - even if you know the other player. Imagine this with 7 guys. Anyhow, I hope each turn gets evaluated and the results are then send automatically to all participants simultaneously or something like that.

Anyone that paranoid should not be playing e-mail games at all.

Twotribes,

I'd rather get an answer than hear the question isn't worth asking. Whether EiA includes safeguards won't matter much to me. I've already lined up a group of five folks so far, for whom such precautions won't be necessary. I'm mainly just curious.

Any ideas about the communications function?

Cheers,

Cossaky

I don't agree, TwoTribes.

Generally speaking, PBEM games are most likely held between people unknown to each other. And as we all know, winning is utmost in peoples minds.

I do not like having suspicions of people, which is why I rarely play games PBEM....but if measures were in place to prevent issues of trust, I'd probably play PBEM.

To suggest someone shouldn't be playing simply because they do not trust the whole of humanity is ridiculous....and as  the OP pointed out, not very helpful.

So same question from me pls

Thank you for your advice and your quick diagnose, doctor.

The logic of the article was quite compelling. My initial reaction was similar to yours, except I didnt judge someone I dont know.

PBEM these days works fine. There are random dice generators out there.

It's as Judge says, you might get suspicious, not outright paranoid. Imagine rolling three 6's and reporting them , wiping out the enemies army. You might just want to fudge them downward a bit.

It is highly recommended that you know, or at least verify the real name behind the screen name of each member of your playgroup, because there is nothing preventing unscrupulous players from reworking their turns.

Diplomatic communications can be made using any preferred medium (email, phone, ftf, flags, signal fires, drums, etc). The program supplies two buttons, one to the major power that you have selected on the map and the other to all players. When either button is used, it will open up a blank email, with email addresses and subject field filled in for convenience, or you can use another email account to communicate and send files(s).

Enjoy

Richard

Not to be a bother BuT, there is a common technology available to ensure the series of rolls can not change in a turn. While this would still allow one to change the order of attacks, that by itself can be controlled and can be obvious when done repeatedly.

Not a bother - but there are ways around it, even with that code employed. Those that must will find away.

Sheesh people, bad chit picks and dice rolls are part of the game. Things going bad? commit the guard! (if you can)
