damastabongo -> Question for a counter unit graphic mod ? (12/5/2007 5:49:07 PM)

Hi,

I'm currently working on a graphic mod for FPG whith replacement of the "data" pictures in the hardware inspector and replacement of the unit counters in the map.

it will looks like that :

the counters

the data pictures

I have 2 questions :

1-
How do the game to select which icon to show for a hybrid unit (ie : 2x M113 + 1x M1A1 + 1x M109). Does it take the more appropriate icon to show the use of the hybrid unit (ie : ATGM, SAM, artillerie or armour) or does it take the more unit type composing this hybrid unit (in my example 2x M113 then it shows a M113 graphic) ?

2-
I'm working to draw one icon for each vehicle present on the hardware inspector but when i take scenario from the game and manualy replace the icons there's few different style of icons possible to change (ie : for NATO aircrafts there's A10, F111, OV10, B52, B1, etc... and in the scenarios i just find A10 or Tornado). If the game can only show a few variation of icons for different units i don't have to draw as icons as in the hardware inspector.

Thanks for those who know the answers

Bongo,

The data pictures can be replaced with one of the same size and name in the Data folder. That is easy to to. Counter graphics require software to change due to there placement in a code specific file. One of our beta testers did a counter mod similar to what you are showing for the vehical icons. It can be found here: http://www.wargamer.com/gamesdepot/details.asp?sid=4247

Bongo,

The new game engine we are currently working on is very mod friendly in every way. You can edit, artwork, sounds, data, maps, scenarios, and campaigns. We are looking to have a vastly different 3rd party support group with these new games. So hold on to those creative ideas. [:)]

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I'm near to finish a complete set of icons (one for each material in the hardware inspector) and a complete set of pictures for replacing those in the "data" folder (those are just scans of model kit boxes...). This is not a problem, i like very much to do this...

When you say you make a new game engine, could you says me a little more. Is it a game on the same period ? In the same scale ? when do you think we'll can buy it ?

It'a good news to see that the classical wargames are not dead and that such guys like you still working on great pleasure games. Thanks to you for this.

Regards

Bongo,

Go here for some info on the new game: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1399532

The famous when it is ready is the answer to when. We are behind our target dates at the moment (my fault, the data work is taking more time then I expected to get it into the format we want, but it is a 100's of weapons and 1000's of platforms I;m having to grind through). Games will cover basically 1946 to 1989 to start. 1990 to now+ will come later. We are looking at a number of conflict regions starting in the Mid-East.
