GaryChildress -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/14/2007 9:50:08 PM)

Hi Terminus, I'll Fed Ex if he needs it that fast.

EDIT: And I have absolutely NO qualms about doing it at my own expense.

GaryChildress -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/14/2007 11:00:36 PM)

Let me know soon. It's almost cut off time for Fed Ex here in Florida time zone. However, there is also tomorrow. I can run out first thing tomorrow morning and ship it priority overnight.

I would love to have an opportunity to help the AE cause. I'm just glad WitP is still alive and flourishing.

Barb -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/15/2007 7:14:36 PM)

I wish to have corrected some dates when ships arrived in the teathre. Mainly for the US ships i have find (on wikipedia) many actual days when the ships passed Panama canal (also mentioning some other ships passing with them). I think it will be a little worse for the british ships.

This is for Woos. Would it be posible to have some sort of indication of the control range of headquarters maybe similar to the circles for air search?

In case you mean "possible within witpDecoder": Yes, that is actually a good idea. Need to put that in.

BB57 -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/15/2007 11:28:06 PM)

Yes thats what happens when I don't proofread.  Thanks

Micke II -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/16/2007 12:48:44 PM)

Special highlights appearing on the map:

In order to make life easier to the players would it be possible to have the following features appearing on the map with specific colors:
- areas covered by naval search missions in order to see immediatly which zones are patrolled, including overlaps between missions or gaps.
- research of units fragments spread over the maps:
when looking on a specific unit it will be nice to locate on the map, at one glance, the different fragments belonging to the same unit.

Terminus -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/16/2007 1:19:57 PM)

Not in the game itself, that's for sure.

bradfordkay -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/16/2007 8:21:09 PM)

Any chance of having the "list land units" function show those that are loaded abard TFs?

If so, then this function would finally be able to do what Micke II was asking in the second part of his post.

JamesM -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/16/2007 11:25:15 PM)

I was reading in another thread that Bodhi's utility without adaption will not be able to work with AE, Could you incorporate a utility that is very similar to this one as I find it very useful because you are able to see all information such as combat, intelligence and operational reports on a map which makes it much easier know what is happening.

GI Jive -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/17/2007 1:55:05 AM)

Will ship side art be "scaled" so that ships on the combat screen will be proprtional? How about aircraft art; B-29's Larger than P-51's or will this stay the same?

Terminus -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/17/2007 1:56:25 AM)

Yep, scaled art is in the new product. And it looks amazing.[8D]

Fishbed -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/17/2007 2:02:51 AM)

A stupid question about the available scenarios (maybe it was asked before, sorry if so)

1) Will older stock WitP scenarios be (made) compatible with AE, or will we be limited to the scenarios shipped together with AE?
2) If indeed in the beginning only half a dozen scenarios are available, do you plan to include regional ones in the initial release (Im thinking mainly about my beloved SOPAC of course...)
3) Is the "go back to Pearl-Harbor/HI" for damaged ships in the "regional" scenarios re-activated?

Thanks in advance

Bodhi's utility will work with AE, it's Woos' witpdecoder that will need an update. Since Woos is a member of the AE team I wouldn't worry too much...

1+2+3): We're still finalizing the scenario list.

If you're still wondering which scenarios, I'd like to put my {admittedly not worth much} vote in for a Dec 8, 1941 scenario.

bradfordkay -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/17/2007 9:53:34 AM)

I will add my vote for the same. My favorite stock scenario was the Dec 8 scenario. I liked to think of myself as the man placed in charge of it all because the war started out so disastrously...

Mark VII -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/17/2007 3:49:38 PM)

I will "third" a Dec 8 start!

Well I tried convincing the rest of the team that the Pacific War really started on Dec 8th anyway. I mean except for one little attack, in the far Eastern portion of the Theater, the Pacific War really did start on Dec 8th. But alas, I didn't even get one response to this idea!
[:)]
But we do hope that the "historical" start, will produce essentially a situation for the second day of the war, that amounts to a start from this point.

spence -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/17/2007 10:30:34 PM)

I don't suppose it's possible to have a non-historical 1st turn option where there is only a probability of 1st turn surprise rather than a certainty of it. And perhaps a bit more to the "Vary Setup" option than just having a TF of some sort sitting out next to French Frigate Shoals. If a Japanese Player decides he's gonna invade Oahu or San Francisco on turn 1 etc etc I sorta feel he should be having no fingernails left when he finishes loading up that first turn. So what if it goes bad. I've not had a Japanese opponent go beyond the point where it went bad anyway and it'd save 200 turns of getting pounded first.

We actually had a considerable amount of discussion about various "alternate history" start up options. Ultimately, time, practicality and our purpose, drove us to a decision to leave the "alternates" to the modders. One of our key missions (in our minds anyway) was to increase the "historicity" of the master scenario. And if spending time on "alternate" history would take away from first making things MORE historical, than we chose to focus on increased historical accuracy.

One could create a MOD around any alternate start one wanted. Start the game, the day of or the day after the opening, depending on the effect desired. But we did decide to leave out a "variable start" option.

Some of the things we discussed sound interesting to me, like "grading" the amount of Allied surprise, depending on what the Japanese do. And allowing the Japanese considerable latitude, as long as they are willing to accept a variable and unknown amount of response. I liked this idea, because I think it best simulates the problems the real Japanese had. They did not have the benefit of hindsite and could not KNOW that the Allies would be unable to move, etc. If they did "X". But then this is why I only play the historical start (and so far I have essentially only played the IJN in PBEM) to avoid the alternate starts the game allows. But a full blown "alternate start system" will have to wait until "WITP_II" as this did not make the cut for AE.

This is a question for Andrew - when I was working on the CHS leaders project, the data that I passed to you & El Cid, how much of those leaders & pilots will make/made it in? And can you expand on the added changes to leader ratings as well as get an added screenshot even if it's some kind of early beta version so that we might see it?

In general, we decided to go back to stock to start building the AE campaign scenario. One reason we didn't use CHS was that there have been a LOT of contributions by many people over the life of CHS, and we can't be sure who contributed what. Given that AE is a commercial product I don't think that it is OK for us to just use the data in CHS without specific permission from the relevant contributor(s).

Having said that some of the people working on AE were also CHS contributors, so there is nothing stopping them from using their own additions to CHS (or any other mod).

Also - if you would like to see your work considered for AE, I suggest contacting the relevant person (land, air or naval team depending on the leader types) directly, and ask whether they are interested in looking at the data. I can only speak for myself but I am happy to look at any information provided via this forum. There are a LOT of knowledgeable people here - a lot more knowledgeable than I am, that is for sure.

Joe can correct me if my views are not aligned with the official AE ones.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, I've no qualms about what I put in being used at all or even changed so you have my permission to use it [:'(]

I just hated to see all that work put in in getting correct leaders in the right spot instead of some John Doe in command of the PH BB's along with ratings of Brit being looked into.

Andy Mac -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/18/2007 2:45:49 AM)

I did the review of the Brit leaders and am happy to recieve any other opinions (not my area) but I also reviewed the Admirals mostly increasing aggression ratings (hard not to Swordfish agianst KB now thats what you call aggression - or something)

If I get around to it I will list a posting of all the higher Brit leaders after my amendments with stats just to foster some debate [:D][:D][:D]

Andy

In WITP the alternate history starts when the player makes their first move!

GaryChildress -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/20/2007 4:10:00 PM)

Who will be the featured artists for WITP? Ship art, plane side and plane top art?

Thanks.

drw61 -> RE: Admiral's Edition General Thread (12/20/2007 4:35:29 PM)

Not sure if this has been asked yet,
Using the editor, will we be able to set the start date earlier that Dec 7, 1941 for mods?

Fantastic!! My three favorite ship artists! [&o] [sm=00000436.gif]

What about plane sides? I didn't see anyone listed for that.

AKDreemer did a spreadsheet on most USN LSTs - it is probably posted on his site - and I can send you a copy -
a vast undertaking - just entering the data took a gigantic amount of time. He worked out when ships entered the theater - almost every one via Panama as they were built on the other side.
