Based on my earlier comment about improving the AI (see "On the 7th day..."), I have a suggestion to change the architecture to improve the AI development. If the new version of WitP is architected properly, it would be possible to separate the AI module into its own dll. In this case it would be possible to release the source to the AI dll and allow the community to make AI improvements. This would allow fanboy programmers to improve the gameplay of WitP while not tying down Matrix resources; thus allowing the product developers to focus on features.

Maybe for WITP II - this is an expansion based on the current WITP, so i don't think they are going to be changing the basic architecture of the game.

I'm sure if you are willing to pay the cost for a group of programmers and developers to re-write the code from the ground up someone will be willing to try. When did you win the lottery? As for "releasing the code" to all, I'm sure 2by3 would want a significant financial reimbursement from Matrix for giving away it's "intellectual property".
