vollman -> What do I need to set up? (12/13/2007 5:51:34 PM)

I set up all my infantry and cavalry, and it won't let me continue because I haven't set up everything. Which of the following do I HAVE to set up in order to begin the game, and which ones can I deploy later:
1. All leaders
2. All ships
3. All feudal corps (in Turkey's case)
4. All corps counters
5. All fleets counters
6. All depots

Or perhaps is there a screen somewhere that tells me what I've missed and what I still need to set up?

With the exception of ships, can I set them up, and then immediately take them off map until I want to place them later (at a cost, in the case of 4-6)? You know, to save maintenance fees in March?

I'd got the same problem on my first game.

If you play a country like France, you should have some Free state counter to be place... ;) Like Holland ;)

When you 'll place every counters of them, is it OK now ?

Don't forget to set up Syria and that small garrison in the free state north of Turkey (can't remember the name right now).

When you click the “end current phase” button does the program:

1. Show a message window that says: “Must place all forces during at setup” or;
2. Show error message in status panel (red text) that says: “add forces or remove unit”

If #1: click any land area on the map and view the Status Panel. It will show the current major power’s available factors during setup. You need to add them before advancing the game.

If it is #2 then you have an empty counter on the map that you must remove or place factors into

Look at the lower left above the text message box and you should see what factors are left to be placed!
It should be displayed like (1i,2c,(FS)1i,3c). This is saying that you have 1 infantry and 1 cav to be placed BUT you also have 1 infantry and 3 cav to be placed for one of your freestates.

Thanks to those great suggestions, I figured out that you need to setup all your fleets.  The picture shows that you need to place your fleets in order to complete your setup.  I guess we always played it wrong, we assumed that since fleets don't need to be placed the moment they arrive as reinforcements, they don't need to get placed at setup, either.  Guess we were wrong?  But keep reading please.

Then it told me that I couldn't continue unless I placed my leader.  That made me suspicious since I was pretty sure you are allowed to keep your leaders off-map.  Am I wrong on this too?

I tried searching help, but it seems like help is non-searchable?  You can type in whatever keyword you want, nothing comes up.

Anyway, even after placing my leader, it still complained.  Any ideas how to get out of this one?

P.S.  Only one image allowed per post, so images to come in the next two replies.

Here is the screenshot of the complaint that I haven't "assigned" Grand Vizier. What does that mean? (What it looks like is in the next post, since there's only one image per post).

Ok here is a shot of Constantinople, with the Grand Vizier sitting there with my corps. What else do I have to do to satisfy the message about not assigning the leader? Appreciate your help!

pakron -> RE: What do I need to set up? (12/14/2007 5:25:45 AM)

Select a corps in the same area. Select Assign leader and pick Grand Vizier. If you don't, he will not be assigned to a specific unit. Now, if you don't place him on the map at all, that is ok too, but if he is placed you must assign him to a single corps. He will still work will all corps in battle (if he has seniority).

vollman -> RE: What do I need to set up? (12/14/2007 5:42:47 AM)

Got it!  Click the corps and hit assign leader and bang, we're set.

THANKS!

(To re-cap the correct answers to my questions: Everything except #2 (fleets) don't need to be setup and can be deployed later).
