Panzeh -> 9-player Diplomacy France (12/14/2007 3:21:08 AM)

Well, France is in a very untenable position to begin with. Surrounded by hungry enemies, I'm pretty much limited in my course of action. If I do survive into the later game, however, I am in a good position to win the game.

I began the game with England offering me an alliance to help out. I can't refuse an offer from England, and so far he has helped me a lot. Spain is not really in a very good position to attack me, but if he were to commit to that course of action he would certainly have to do so away from his centers of supply and wouldn't hit a production center until Paris of Marsielles.

A much more imminent threat, I think, is Italy and Germany, both well within striking range of my cities. I didn't hear anything from them, so I pretty much assumed that they were going to attack me. My strategy in that fight is to separate them and try to tackle them one at a time. If I can knock one out of the war I can fight the other on much better terms.

I chose an Italy-first strategy because his production is closer to mine and I am in better position to use naval assets to assist. The goal will be to conquer 1 or 2 producing Italian cities and get a peace with them in order to focus on getting southern Germany.

Turn 2

Well, the situation has changed quite a bit.  Now Italy seems content to wait and wants Spain to attack.  It's not really possible to tell whether Spain actually wants to play ball with me and UK or wants to attack me anyway.  Hopefully with some UK help I can keep Spain at bay.

I found a bunch of Italian BBs so I tried just about everything in the book to sink them and nothing really happened.  I lost a sub, 2 dive bombers, and a fighter to those pesky BBs.  I did, however, catch a couple of DDs alone and were easily able to get rid of them with my combined fleet.

On land I try to get into position to get rid of the roadblocks through concentric attacks.  I have good supply throughout the area so it should not be a problem to get 2-3 side attacks.  I counter-bombarded but chose not to try and attack the western roadblock until I had help.  I'm betting a bunch of PP right now trying to get into a better position rather than spending them on HQs.  Maybe it'll pay off, but in the long run that staff bonus is gonna kill me.

I suspect that I am up for an early elimination.  Yeah, I made a bunch of mistakes, to say the least.

I have the Italians mostly contained(i thought this 2 turns ago, too, so take this with a grain of salt).  At least I got my southern army out of the worst encirclement threat and killed some exposed italians.  I really don't see how he got Geneva so fast against an entrenched force, but I guess luck favors the bold.  One thing I do know is that the Spanish have little to gain from an attack on me, aside from Algiers, and I certainly do not fear such an attack the same away I fear a german attack.

Nothing short of a miracle will save me here I think.

There's no way I can hold on against everybody at this point.  No amount of posturing from sleepy England is going to help me.  Somehow italian forces are completely invulnerable and cannot be defended against.  I guess them's the breaks.  I guess I can live content that Spain is going to get the worst of everything because he is going to come out of the invasion with nothing, being the most cowardly of the invaders.

Yeah, I'm a mite bit pissed off at the moment, I guess i could surrender at this point if it's okay?

Panzeh - it's not my game but I'd urge you to resist to the last since the other players don't have an AI to play your forces.

Don't sweat it btw - this is how multiplayer diplomacy games go I think - people get ganged up on and eliminated. Any country in the game can be knocked out quickly if several opponents invade them. It's not personal - just a game - cheer up and enjoy the bitter final defense!!! :-)
