Cosian -> Saving Lunga? (12/23/2007 9:56:11 PM)

I have not played in quite awhile but with some time off over the holidays I reloaded. I started by playing the tutorial and it seems to me the marines at Lunga are not saveable. I am not playing head to head ....just playing allied. I am usually able to get my two surface combat fleets bombarding by the second turn. The Jap carriers rarely show up around the canal and so even though its costly, I have all 3 carriers ground attacking while their fighter fly LRCAP over Lunga. I send my transports to Noumea to pick up more troops but Lunga is always captured before I can get more units in there. I am starting to suspect I am supposed to be picking up the units at Lunga before they get destroyed.

I am I missing something?

I do not believe the tutorial was ever meant to be a scenario to be played seriously. It is intended to demonstrate certain game mechanics to the player and each of the three locations was chosen to use highlight different game features.

If I remember correctly, Port Moresby is set up with an Allied advantage to demonstrate ground combat and land based air (LBA), Lunga is setup with a Japanese advantage to demonstrate the effects of supply and bombardments and Gili-Gili is set up to demonstrate naval combat and is relatively even.

See the Players Guide in the game start menu (or the Players Guide file located at C:\Uncommon Valor\Manuals\UV - Players Guide eBook.pdf)
