Dive Bomber1 -> Anyone Playing PBEM with Advanced Weather "Off"? (12/28/2007 2:32:40 PM)

I was comparing the very different Allied and Japanese Combat Replay results from the last turn in my pbem against AuTiger when I noticed a common thread - all of the different results occured in regions of bad weather. It was as if AuTiger got different weather when he ran the Combat Replay as the Allied side than I did as the Japanese side.

It was as if a different "seed" was generated for the Advanced Weather during the Allied Combat replay. We've all seen and learned to "live with" the strangeness of Advanced Weather, but I've got to wonder if the "bad behavior" of Advanced Weather is doing more than giving storms over most of the Map for most of the game.

With that in mind, I would like to know if anyone has played or is playing a pbem with Advanced Weather set to "Off", and if so, did you see Sync Problems.

Thanks -

Never noticed "synch" problems due to weather. Do know that "Advanced Weather" ISN'T. Turning it on means "get wet and stay wet" all over the map. Would never play with it on again.

Mike - So are you saying that you have seen "sync" problems when you play pbem with Advanced Weather set to "Off", or not?

Thanks -

No. I said I'd never noticed any synch problems due to weather (on or off)..., but that "Advanced Weather On" really meant "Bad Weather Almost Everywhere".

Grotius -> RE: Anyone Playing PBEM with Advanced Weather "Off"? (12/28/2007 4:42:00 PM)

Is the AE going to deal with weather at all? I suppose I should ask in the AE thread...

tsimmonds -> RE: Anyone Playing PBEM with Advanced Weather "Off"? (12/28/2007 5:16:03 PM)

The PBEM I am in has Advanced Weather turned off, and we have synch problems.

Proof that good weather causes sync problems?? YOU be the judge!! [:'(] [:'(]

I have to agree with having it off. In my PBEM game, South East Asia has had thunderstorms for everyday of our game (now in June 1943) except maybe a dozen or so. I know it rains there a lot, but thats just silly.

Hmmm - too bad. Oh well, I had hoped that I had stumbled upon something useful.

BTW - what is your experience in general with Advanced Weather "off"? Do you find your pbems more enjoyable than with it on?

Thanks -

Cathartes -> RE: Anyone Playing PBEM with Advanced Weather "Off"? (12/28/2007 6:40:35 PM)

I have one PBEM with weather ON, and one with weather OFF. I personally prefer weather ON. It adds much more unpredictability for naval movement, recon, and air strikes. Yes, it can be frustrating--especially in SE Asia, but it adds considerably to the fog of war and uncertainty of air support--for both sides. Except in SE Asia, I have not experienced unrelenting heavy precipitation events, and even there air strikes seem to fly about 33% of the time with the worst possible weather. I'm in August 1942 with my weather "ON" PBEM, and I usually see a break in SE Asia an average of two days out of ten.

With weather OFF there is a noticeable reliability/infallability with air strikes and patrol zones that seems a bit contrived.

Weather ON just feels more realistic to me.

BTW-- I've had sync problems with both weather settings.

Hi Dive Bomber1,

I play with Advanced Weather off. There are still weather patterns and I much prefer to play with Advanced Weather off. I've played a few games with Advanced Weather on and always felt like I needed an option to build an ark...[:D]
