I prefer not to host, i´m newbie and i prefer to learn first how EiA works in a PC game :)

eske -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/8/2008 5:37:33 PM)

This is from the game manual. Maybe it answers some of the GAP questions..

Explanation Of The Gap:
Bids are capped at 30 Victory Points to curb astronomical bidding for France or Britain. Ties are broken using a non-repeating random number event. The password created during the bid procedure was designed to protect the player’s EiANW gamestart file and subsequent turn files. Also during the bid procedure, players can choose which pre-existing wars they would declare should they win control of a specific major power. The bid file (.bid), which is encrypted, contains the player’s 7 bids, pre-existing war declaration requests and the password that the player made. The player name and email address is also included but is not encrypted. NOTE: give recognizable names to your bid files (e.g. YourName_GameName.bid) so that the host understands which game it belongs to (he/she may be hosting more than one game and your bids may vary from one game to another depending on the major power your trying to control).

You go download it from Matrix' EiANW pgae and try it out. It is quite simple.
However it raises the question of using passwords. I'll say why not? It's not big trouble and it stops any wondering if he really - again - picked the best combatchit by luck or ... some spying was involved [:-]

In case we use an ingame arbitrator for the bidding we still have to trust him/her though, as someone has to hold all the passwords (in case of player replacements).

As to host - we still need someone to voluteer, don't we  [8|]

DCWhitworth -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/8/2008 8:06:22 PM)

Are you looking for another player ? Experienced EIA player, I'm willing to host if needed.

praem -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/8/2008 8:16:42 PM)

GAP is a bidding program downloadable from Matrix Games.
When you have it make your bids and pre existing states of war for each should you gain control. The program creates a file you send to the host. The host makes bids himself and then loads the other bids. GAP will then calculate the bids and asign nations (and resolving ties) - the text-file can then be send to the players. When starting the game, the host imports the bids and sends the game start file.

When you bid remember the sequence the bids are handles - GB first - Turkey last... as per the original board game rules - it is the sequence you are asked to give them in GAP.

As for host - I see we are a prety unexperienced bunch. As it isnt to much work after all, I'm volunteering to be host. Mail your bids to christian.praem@city.dk - please type EiA in the subject line.

As for game name - it is by far easier to keep track of files if the name is short, but not a bick deal. "War & Peace" is fine by me.

Chanel crossing - it will be an option in the first patch. I havnt an opinion weither we should keep it on or off and I dont see a concensus on it atm.

My mail and options

I had to put some ? where I do not understand the content of the option

General von Alien -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/9/2008 9:35:30 AM)

praem: in the excel file I've written that I'm willing to be host, but if you want to do it no problem.

Game name: War & Peace ok.

Cunctator:

Cunctator -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/9/2008 2:58:32 PM)

Grazie General

una domanda: nel pbem quick combat almeno si scelgono i chit iniziali?

grazie ancora

General von Alien -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/9/2008 3:51:05 PM)

DCWhitworth, sorry but I don't seen your post.
At the moment we are full-crew.

Cunctator, non sono sicuro ma credo che tu non possa selezionarli...

praem -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/9/2008 10:41:42 PM)

We have 5 bids in atm including mine.

As for options, i havnt run through the post and mails inbeded in them. I believe you General started the escell . could you sum op the votes as mentioned in posts and the excell files? That should solve the options. I havtn the big picture here.

regards
praem

praem -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/9/2008 10:45:51 PM)

Bresh - the patch should fix bugs and add some optionals. The bug-fix will work for any save games. Options should be changable. This meens we dont have to wait, but I think we should. However when the last bids are in, I'll run the GAP and country selectionetc. will be made public - diplomacy can then start while we wait for the patch.

eske -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/11/2008 1:08:46 AM)

Ah, General, you were faster. Good [:)]

I just summed the votes too, but couldn't find pream's votes.
But to give everybody the full picture (still without pream) we all agreed except on five issues:

GB and France start at war .... only one opposed majority
Winter land movement .... two+ opposed majority
Leader casualties .... two+ opposed majority
Privateer .... two+ opposed majority
British channel crossing .... two+ opposed majority

If any player want's to try and reopen any of these please do so now,
- and only if you feel strongly about it !

Praem has recieved bids from most of us, and when the result is revieled and we all got our country, it will be too late!!

So silence now is acceptance, ok ?

bresh -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/11/2008 1:29:22 AM)

I have a question about gap.

It says declare pre-war declearations in the bid-file ?

Im guessing first bid file contains bids only ?

Then the matter of pre-wars propably would come after some diplomacy phase before setup ?
Once i know how, i can prob bid :)

I still think we wait for patch, i didnt read Marshals patch description thorough, but i notiched something about some features not implemented in games running, but only in new games started with patch.

Regards
Bresh

eske -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/11/2008 1:04:06 PM)

It appears the only way to make pre-wars is with the GAP. Haven't found anyway to do it in the game.

So the intent is probably pre-wars is done simultaniusly with the bids. And there is no diplomacy to act on before pre.wars are declared. Don't know if this follows original EiA rules, if there is a rule covering this at all?

Lots of dipolmacy before setup though [:)]

And it appears waiting for the patch is a good idea.
We could use the time to prepare setups (in setup files, so we or the host only have to load them).
Would make a fast start ...

bresh -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/11/2008 1:32:13 PM)

Ponder so how do i figure out (if) who i wanna have pre-wars with before i know who i play ?

What name did our game end up with ?

Bresh

bresh -> RE: looking to start a new game im based in uk (1/11/2008 2:59:50 PM)

Ohh, btw how big where pbm files ?
I might need to change which email address i use i guess. Think i read somewhere they could get big, and in Marshalls 1.01 patch description i didnt see it mentioned.

Also i want to know if any changes came to the written setup ? Since a change could affect my bids. I already made it, but havent mailed it yet.

Btw saw Marshall thinks patch out 1.01 moday. I send my bid during this weekend i guess :) Cant setup before patch anyway :) I do have setup files for most countries anyway, so not much to fix for me :)

"W&P" seems ok :) But "War&Peace" sounds fine to :)

Made me gmail account so should be ok filesize.

New Email:p.bresh@gmail.com

Bresh
