dzanr -> Manual Game Play - Can I do these? (1/7/2008 5:06:06 PM)

I've recently played a number of games manually for the first time. With an eye to some of the features of other baseball sim software I have, I am wondering if there is a way to do any of the following:

  • Bring corners in when anticipating a bunt or trying to cut a run off at the plate while still "playing for two" up the middle. By this I mean only corner infielders in. (As opposed to bringing the whole infield in or guarding the lines.)
  • Choose to hold a runner on base (to reduce the likelyhood of a successful steal or extra base advancement) or not to hold a runner and play behind him (to increase the likelyhood of making the play defensively.)
  • Determine how good of a bunter a particular player is. Is it necessarily the same as his Contact rating?
  • Estimate the fatigue of the pitcher.
  • View the box score or play log while the game is still in progress.
  • Save a game in progress and resume at some later point in time.

Thank you.

DZ

Regretfully, your answers are...

  • No.
  • No. Not directly, at least. You can't control this, but the pitcher has an applicable rating (Hold Runners) that influences this. You can also initiate a pitchout, which can indirectly keep the runner on base.
  • I would think that it ties into his Contact rating as I cannot find anything else which would apply.
  • When you say "estimate the fatigue", do you mean determine how long he will last in the game, or determine how tired he is at that moment?
  • No. However, this has been suggested.
  • No.

All good suggestions for possible new features down the road.  As for pitcher fatigue, you have to use pitch velocity & pitch count, in addition to effectiveness (is he starting to get shelled) to determine fatigue.

I meant how tired he is at the moment; that is, at this particular moment in this specific game.

Based on your other answers, I think I can guess the answer to this one as well.   [:(]

I think I'll add these items to Shaun's PS2009 Tweaks thread, although I'm not sure if they really would be tweaks or major changes.

BTW Frozen, I really appreciate your responsiveness to my questions.  But I gotta tell ya I can only spend about 10 seconds pondering your posts becasue that's about the limit of time I can stand to have your avitar in my peripheral vision.  At what site did you find that Spiderman Broadway Dancer?  WorldsMostAnnoyingAvitars.com?  [sm=00000106.gif]

That is an interesting comment, dzanr. I've found that lately, it's been my avatar getting all the attention instead of me.

I honestly do not remember where I found it. I recall seeing it as the avatar for a person on a wargame board that I used to freqent about 8 or 9 years ago. I did a search for it and after a long, difficult process finally found it. I asked the original poster if it was his/permission to use it, but he had gone inactive. He's been mine ever since.

I find it funny that DZ see's Spidey as a Broadway Dancer.  I wonder what other people who have never seen the movie "Napolean Dynamite" must think!!

One of my first questions to Frozen Stiffer was if that was Spidey doing Napoleon, but apparently avatar precedes the film by many years. In fact, I even pulled up the Napoleon clip to compare and they aren't really alike, though it's still the first thing I think of every day I see it.
