arthurmomatrix -> Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/10/2008 1:01:50 PM)

Being dull again I know but I had snags trying to move an HQ with 20 staff and 10 trucks in it along a road at the rate I would expect a truck to go - it only went at walking pace. (Other units shot past it).
What am I doing wrong?

one truck subformationtype or sft carries 20 inf sft types .. staff etc.. often when your hq is immobilized it is perhaps due to extreem,sp?, supplies being in the same unit. For instance if you have a central hq that distributes supplies to all the others, and somehow it gets thousands of supply points, then it could become, Immobile.. look there first.
Second, air units as a sft cause it not to move, but it will "hop" only a few hex to a nearby air base or city.. removing the supplies and or air by transfer often allows movement the same turn.. good luck

Cheers freeboy!
I ditched 7000 odd supplies from stock and then I was off like a rocket.
You learn something every day....

Just build some extra trucks, then you can keep supplies plus move fast.

Put the trucks in the HQ with the extra supplies.

Unless maybe you were in a tough situation where you had no time. Only takes a turn or two with trucks at max production to get a lot of trucks.

Ande -> RE: Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/11/2008 12:58:10 AM)

if you got both trucks and horseson in a hq, you can spread the turns replacements, then load the horses on the trucks and get high speed

I've had a quick look and can't see how many supplies one truck will carry. Is there a set figure? Looks like a truck can carry 20 horses though! Phew![&:]

yoggi75 -> RE: Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/11/2008 1:22:13 PM)

If I recall correctly 50 supply counts for 1 point toward carry capacity, thus 1000 supply/truck.

Vic -> RE: Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/11/2008 2:11:26 PM)

1 excess supply point weighs 0,1 weight point. So a truck should be able to carry 200 supply points.

basicly i'll advice you to create static (strategic) HQs to stockpile supply and create (tactical) HQs that have these strategic HQs as their HQs.

That's what I'd done up to now Vic but plans had to be changed rather quickly! I keep reading about how easy it is to beat the AI+ but I'm being ***** by the AI not+ at the moment. The game is excellent by the way.

Sorry for the misleading info, lucky that Vic came around to correct it. Thanks Vic!

There is a lot of useful information in the unit panel below the map screen.

For example; click on a HQ unit. Now, look just below the section where the movement/supply/readiness/experience/morale/entrenchment icons are.

Notice there are 2 columns of abbreviations with numbers next to them. Mouse over them and a tooltip will be displayed in the space just below the main map and just above the main toolbar row, telling you what they are.

The one I would like to point out in reference to your original question is at the bottom of the right hand column, called `Car' | L: ###/### (the # signs represent 2 different numerical values (separated by a forward slash). The number to the left of the forward slash is the Load Carrying Capacity of the HQ unit. The number to the right of the forward slash is the actual Load of the HQ, including non-wheeled units and Supply. If the number to the left is larger than the number to the right, you're `Mobilized'!

Also notice just above the entrenchment icon (shovel and pick) there is a symbol. This symbol will be a white sillhouette of a truck if you have enough Trucks in the HQ to mobilize it by Wheel. If not, it might have a `Supply' icon with the word `Immob" just above it.

Ah, I'm still stuck in that phase, too. [8|]

I rather have supply stocked at the Supreme HQ and do not move that one at all. Saves a lot of trucks at the lower HQs.

the one thing I fight with is the movement of supplies to the forward hq's to enable troops upgrades, this seems redundant, I can change hq upgrade and then change back, so the supplies are there .. why not just let us upgrade from any hq's supply in th echain of command?

Using the "Auto Upgrade" button on the supply stats screen does this if you first select the top HQ.

OK - I'm slow, what does the auto upgrade button on the supply stats page do?

Rick

Barthheart -> RE: Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/13/2008 10:57:54 PM)

It will apply any and all upgrades to any unit attached to the selected HQ or those HQ's below it in the chain of command. So if you research Rifle III tehn go to the Supply stats page and select the Supreme HQ then click on the Auto Upgrade button , the program will try to upgrade all Rifle II SFT's in the entire command chain to Rifle III up to the available supply in the chain.

Ah, thanks!

Twotribes -> RE: Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/14/2008 12:22:01 AM)

Bad idea though, since when you upgrade your unit then is done for the turn. Unless this does not happen with auto upgrade your going to immobilize your forces while they upgrade.

Barthheart -> RE: Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/14/2008 3:07:28 AM)

Yes that's true so don't use this button until all your moves are complete!

arthurmomatrix -> RE: Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/14/2008 2:09:25 PM)

I've learnt something else REALLY useful through this topic. Auto upgrade will save hours of mouse clicking - thanks a million Barthheart!

freeboy -> RE: Can you move an HQ on a truck? (1/14/2008 5:20:05 PM)

Well, I never use AU because I never have enough supplies and I always want to micromanage which gets the first upgrade.. ie best troops etc
