If a player has NO naval corp on map; skip their naval turn.
(Prussia has no naval corp; no corp = no navy; no navy = no need for naval movement/combat)

(As France; I also intent to apply this concept to the British [:'(] )

The same principle could also apply to land; except that it would
have to be no corp AND no besieged garrisons (that could [theoretically] "attack-out")
(possible for some countries at the start of enforced peace terms - either all troops in
garrison to save $ on corp maintenance or Prussia saving both $ AND MP)

I don't think I've ever seen a nation have no corps on the board. Mostly because you can't put guard and cavalry into garrisons. But even if you *did* have that situation they'd have had to have purchased no corps counters in the previous reinforcement phase which is unlikely. The naval phase idea makes sense though.

How about in a PBEM game having a way of indicating at the end of your phase that you wish to skip one or more forthcoming phases ? I can forsee plenty of situations where a player would have no reason to play a diplomatic or especially a reinforcement phase.

Sure, sure. I understand your desires. But, can't it wait until after tea time?

As Prussia I have applied this concept to the French and British.

No you just think you have, because as Prussia you wouldn't recognise a ship if you saw one [:'(]

Then you never saw ME (as Austria) right after a rather THOROUGH mauling by France in one of the boardgames that I played. ALL of the guard & cav were dead. Since I
had surrendered & had 18 months before the next bout; I didnt need to build anything
except Infentry for about 9 months & thus had NO corp on map for about 14 months
(9 all I + 5 before the cav actually started showing up). This was a significant chunk of change.

Oh and PURCHASED (but not placed) counters don't count because you can't place them
until REINFORCEMENT & I'm talking about skipping MOVEMENT (& combat) steps

Fair point about the counters. I wasn't thinking straight.

I agree that the situation of not having counters on the board *can* happen, I just think it is sufficiently rare not to be worth bothering with a program change.

gwheelock -> RE: Game speedup suggestion (1/12/2008 2:02:06 AM)

I agree that the land phase is probably not worth spending a lot of programming time on
(my case was a rather rare one); but the Naval condition is GUARENTEED to occur for
Prussia for at LEAST a year (& possibly the entire game).

Grognot -> RE: Game speedup suggestion (1/12/2008 2:08:46 AM)

Prussia can have fleets to control in January, 1805.  It's not particularly likely, but it's possible.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Game speedup suggestion (1/13/2008 5:42:05 PM)

Skipping the naval phase for Prussia might be a good idea.
Skipping the reinf phase if nothing is available is a NO-NO. I know this from experience. This was one of the first things that the testers tagged me for a while back!
