Charest -> What about the AI? (1/13/2008 2:09:48 AM)

Are you testing AI vs AI games as well? I would like to see if the AI performances are balanced.

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/13/2008 11:15:55 PM)

don't see anybody else jumping in

so, yes, we have run tests with just the AI, I also posted that I was happy to see that the AI won (which of course, somebody then stated that, well, yea, but in BTR the AI Allied defeated the AI LW, in BoB, most times the AI LW loses)

joey -> RE: What about the AI? (1/14/2008 5:49:10 PM)

So the AI LW loses most of the time? Is this by design?

wernerpruckner -> RE: What about the AI? (1/14/2008 11:02:44 PM)

[X(][X(][X(]
in the original BtR the Allied AI was never able to win against the Axis AI
now it is a little more realistic.

joey -> RE: What about the AI? (1/15/2008 3:16:05 AM)

I did not know that. You are correct - it does make it more accurate. I do like a competitive AI.

histgamer -> RE: What about the AI? (1/18/2008 1:00:31 PM)

Hopefully the AI will at least be compitent on the axis or allied side.

von Shagmeister -> RE: What about the AI? (1/18/2008 5:12:04 PM)

I doubt the AI will ever be able to compete with a competent human player unless there is a major reworking of the AI routines and I don't know if that's on the agenda at this stage.

Once up to speed against the AI the best route is a PBEM game. A good human opponent will always be more devious/skilled/unpredictable than the AI.

histgamer -> RE: What about the AI? (1/18/2008 11:37:39 PM)

However Human games move much more slowly...[:(]

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/24/2008 5:15:00 PM)

Ahhhhhh

I had two AI games going, but had a oddity, that I wanted to correct, took me two weeks to find it (as it shouldn't be a oddity !!!!)

but, I got to kill off the two test games, so I can test what I think is the correction

but, here is a shot of the summery page of the BTR44 campaign I had running

a little more bloody then I would like, but...

was impressed, the AI scored 7 SD and 1 TE on the first turn (of course lost a point to each due to repair)

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/24/2008 5:24:34 PM)

ahhhh

23 days to wait, love doing this stuff :)

got 15 pages of notes I want to work on, need to find where some bases should be, but, got to nail this bug first

which then means, if I nailed it, I got to go over the whole data base, to be sure it is not in other places

a really silly bugger, as it is how it is suppost to be done, but in this case, the game reads the data different (of course, that is, if I nailed it)

hmmm

did you know that Asch is not where Asch is on the map ? (at least, not the Asch I am looking for)

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/24/2008 5:54:27 PM)

don't mind me, I tend to ramble when I am thinking

found Asch and Nordhorn, so I am happy

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/24/2008 7:25:59 PM)

Bingo, got it

of course, found something new to work on

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/24/2008 8:20:09 PM)

okay, got the 2nd one also, that was another odd one, everything was right, just wouldn't do what it was suppost to do, but the game builds the planes I tell it to build now (LOL, had it doing that ages ago, but not every plane wants to be built ???)

histgamer -> RE: What about the AI? (1/24/2008 10:30:33 PM)

did someone say that you produce some planes while others just arrive in slots and you were trying to get it all in to on the map production? If that makes sense.

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/25/2008 4:25:08 AM)

no, all of the producable planes are made in the factories (some plane models do not get produced)

the way the game/data base assigns bases, was giving me trouble, in all other parts of the data base, a empty slot gives a null value, but for groups, a empty slot gave a value, which means the game was trying to put the group into a place that was not on the map

everything was fine, until you got to units on a delay, some were coming into the game too early, so had a base set for them

for production, it was more a case of the AI not having what it needed, so was using what it had for what it wanted, instead of what I wanted

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/25/2008 2:20:01 PM)

Well
as I been saying, I been running my tests, looking for "things", which in the long run means, short and sweet and see if it works or does not, and then move on, so not really had any chance to let the AI play for a while

so last night, I let it start and run, so I could see what happens when I get home in the morning

I got to say, I am very happy with this run

which background, this the 44 Campaign (for the longest time, if you wanted to play BTR, you played the 43 Campaign, as nothing was fixed or corrected over the years on the 44 verison, that no longer should be a issue)

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/25/2008 2:23:55 PM)

which remember, by looking at the date, D-Day has happened, BC and the VIIIth have been locked into Overlord Targeting, so a 16 SD and 18 TE score is great

the score for the Allies can really drop during this time

looking the map over, you can almost see the idea behind the raids, it looks like the AI had a plan and stuck to it

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/25/2008 2:25:03 PM)

of course, the Oil in Romy is not the only target

Vienna

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/25/2008 2:27:24 PM)

which that does not show the area in Poland, but it has also been hit and hit well

and of course we got the North, Hamburg is Oil Rich, and Stetten has been hit HARD

would like to see the Hallie/Lipzig area hit a little better, but the main targets there are also hit pretty well

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/25/2008 2:29:21 PM)

ahhh, it is a shame, the screen shots don't match what you see when you look at the map, if you have played the game before, and know what you are seeing, this is very pretty

turn should of ended by now, time to look over and see what is going on, on the insides :)

histgamer -> RE: What about the AI? (1/25/2008 7:41:38 PM)

I have not played the game before but they look pretty.

I assume that red means heavily damaged and shut down for production, orange is moderate damage but limited production and green is light damage or none and full production.

Am I correct?[:D]

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/26/2008 7:17:11 AM)

yes, color coded to show amount of damaged, if you have color turned off (there is a switch) the sites will have different damaged icons

histgamer -> RE: What about the AI? (1/26/2008 7:28:41 AM)

So how quickly do heavily damaged things get repaired? Does that also depend on how many other things are badly damaged ie avalible resources to repair things with?

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/26/2008 7:54:57 AM)

depends on the target type
Radar and AFs repair quickly, ports seems to be very slow to repair

histgamer -> RE: What about the AI? (1/26/2008 8:16:08 AM)

And the most important target... (in my opinion) Oil?

Hard Sarge -> RE: What about the AI? (1/26/2008 10:09:11 AM)

off the top of my head, I would say it is one point a day, but remember, it is a chance to repair

toast_1 -> RE: What about the AI? (2/17/2008 4:03:50 PM)

HS, The target map above, bring back lots of fine memories.

You mention "AI oddities". One of the most difficult things I have learned from programing AI is how get the AI to do unpredictable. IMO This is one thing that separates human vs AI opponent. Human does unpredicatable things that make sense eventually. AI does "unpredicable oddities" but it's harder for it to use oddities to advantage. Making AI logical and unpredicatable is tricky business.

Anyway, enjoy reading all of the other development posts and looking forward to new version.
