I am writting this from work so I do not have the rules in front of me, but here gos.

I was landing a corps in Algeria using a single corps from a heavy fleet. According to the AH rules, you can buy a depot and place it on the fleet for supply. I tried this with the following resualts; there was no way of placing the depot in the naval phase and in the land phase it told me that the area was not a valid supply zone. So what am I doing wrong?

Invasion supply depots are placed during the land phase.

quote:

Invasion supply can only be used if an unblockaded friendly controlled port that is a supply source or contains a depot that is part of a valid supply chain exists from which supply can be traced to the fleet.

Also, you need to disembark the corps first. And you need to select the fleet to place the depot on, you can't just select the sea area.

Jimmer -> RE: Supply during Landings (1/15/2008 5:39:21 PM)

Actually, you don't need to disembark to build the depot. However, if you don't the icon for the fleet counter will change from one of having a corps on-board to one of having a depot on-board. As a result, you may forget to drop the corps off if you do them in this order.

If it says the area is not a valid supply zone (or, something like that), that usually means you do not have a port that has a supply source depot in it (already), and that is unblockaded. To be valid, the port has to have an already-existing depot (from the last turn, not one placed this turn). Plus, it can't be blockaded.

praem -> RE: Supply during Landings (1/15/2008 6:35:40 PM)

If your in the sea zone usually it isnt a problem to build a depot on the fleet. I've experiened the game not accepting an order to build deport when my fleets are in blocade box - which it IMO should allow - maybe that is whats hapening to you as well?

You do need to make sure you have a port somewhere that has a depot to trace sea supply to an invasion depot.  Also I believe (don't have the rules in front of me...) that to trace sea supply for reinforcement purposes you need to have a fleet in one of those ports with a depot.  But I don't recall if you need the depot with a fleet in the port just for tracing regular/invasion supply.

i got the impression from one my game and it seems you dont need a valid supply chain per sea supply rules to do invasion supply, i think thats wrong, but what i recall it doesnt seem necissary in current implementation.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Supply during Landings (1/15/2008 11:18:28 PM)

That is correct that invasion supply does not require a valid sea supply chain. You only need be adjacent to the landing area. I think this is consistent across EiA and all versions of EiH, please correct me if I'm wrong???

dude -> RE: Supply during Landings (1/16/2008 12:52:21 AM)

You need to trace supply to the fleet:

7.4.4.1 Invasion supply can only be used if an unblockaded friendly controlled port that is a supply source or contains a depot that is part of a valid supply chain exists from which supply can be traced to the fleet.

also be aware of:

7.4.4.6: If the route from the port to the fleet must go into or through the Dardanelles sea area, the permission of the major power controlling the area (if any -- see 10.7) is required.

zaquex -> RE: Supply during Landings (1/16/2008 1:59:27 AM)

I wont quote any rules on this, its not really a major issue, but it seems logical that the ships need a valid harbour to provide supply.

Its especially true as invasion supply in many circumstances is alot more powerfull that the use of a conventional supply chain. It can usually, due to the relativly large size of many sea areas, provide supply to a very large land area and sometimes even to more than one coastline (like balkan and italy or sweden and germany) especially in winter as sea supply dont seem to be restricted by winter supply rules.

On a sidenote regarding sea supply...

If there is any occation where a depot should be limited in how many corps it can supply, its in my oppinion in sea supply. It would also be possible to argue that sure a fleet can take with them a certain amount of supply to support an invasion. However the concept of sea replenishment was probably not very developed at this time and it would probably be very hard to transfer huge amounts of supply from one ship to another at sea. The counter argument would be that the fleet contains several merchant or transport vessels that continously moves back and forward between the fleet and a supply source (harbour), this would however imply that that such supply source is needed and also in my oppinion that you probably should pay for a new sea supply depot every turn (partially to make up for its versatility) or alternativly that the cost of providing sea supply should be raised (additional wastage etc) An alternative or additional possible constraint is to make sea supply at a minimum be subject to winter supply rules.

Thank you all. I will have to try this out tonight.

you are contradicting the manual?

Carnifex,

The manual is correct. I just added it as a confirmed bug for the 1.02 patch. Thanks

Richard

gwheelock -> RE: Supply during Landings (1/16/2008 6:49:16 PM)

Speaking of patches; how's 1.01 coming?  Still planned for today or did they
find some problems in the testing yesterday?

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Supply during Landings (1/17/2008 1:24:37 AM)

The Beta should be up. Official release should be next week.

Yes, I am! BUT I'm big enough to admit it and smart enough to change it! LOL!
This was definitely a miss on my part. We'll get it into 1.02.

And I respect you alot for that and it gives me great hope for the continued development of this game. Thanks Marshall.
