No, that is that thing called "soccer"

At least soccer doesn'tstop every three seconds to watch people wandering about for the next 30! However, I admit it did get pretty exciting at the end.. always good to see the underdog win.

Isn't that what soccer is? Watching people wonder around?

I have tried to watch soccer. It seems if a team gets ahead then they just try to play keep away. BORING! In basketball they instituted a shot clock.

CJMello63 -> RE: Superbowl XLII Predictions (2/4/2008 5:49:54 PM)

If it was a contact sport it might go over better. I can not get into MLS or any soccer league. All the Portuguese guys I work with are fanatics and claim it is better to watch than football.

marcusm -> RE: Superbowl XLII Predictions (2/4/2008 7:46:59 PM)

About 98.9% of the World thinks its more fun to watch.
It says something about fun of NFL when most talk is about the commersials.

Nevertheless.
Hockey is the real sport for real men. Soon time for Stanley Cup talk ;).

In 98% of the world the choices as soccer, bicycling or tennis.
Heck if those were my choices I'd watch soccer and catch up on my sleep! [:)]

Maybe Soccer but real Football(the sport invented by England) doesn't ;).

Walk in with the wrong Jersey in the wrong neighbourhood in Belfast and you'll see what dedication is all about ;). History lesson. Soccer comes from Football Association, ie the English Football Association.

Nevertheless. This is Winter. Winter means Hockey here. The sport for the really hard men (ie not fat like NFL players). Also known as the only American sport worth watching.

Hockey has gone downhill too. I still like it but give me the old bench clearing days.

LOL at the video. That is overdoing it a bit ;). At least it shows
what material Hockey players are.

Generation gap is my best answer (for lack of better term).
Still. I can agree that our Football(Soccer) can be a drag if you are unlucky with teams/weather etc but Hockey almsot never is. The sport has the perfect pacing and action.
It is one of the few sports I can feel fairly safe paying 30 bucks on a ticket.

Plus as a Swede. Nothing beats kicking Finnish butt in hockey :).

marcusm -> RE: Superbowl XLII Predictions (2/4/2008 8:07:46 PM)

Btw. As far as league goes it's the most exciting NHL league I have seen in years.

A real nail biter for us doing some betting ;).

What does that have to do with the sport?

NFL players fat?

Terrell Owens Wide Receiver Dallas Cowboys.

Looks fat to me. How about you post a picture of yourself so we can see what a fit person looks like?[:D]

You mean rugby?

We have rugby leagues. The players are all the ones cut from the football team :)

andym -> RE: Superbowl XLII Predictions (2/4/2008 11:46:34 PM)

That move has been used in great effect in Rugby Union, not the lesser one (Rugby League)still it was a bloody good pass!

LOL Orange. Yes I do.

[image]http://www.sfgate.com/blogs/images/sfgate/fortyniners/2006/08/19/FatFootball.jpg[/image]

You find any hockey/football(soccer) player with a belly like this :D.

My fitness doesnt matter since I don't play A-league level anything. But I
don't think my belly every looked like this.

I rest my case as the lawyer said.

Arctic Blast -> RE: Superbowl XLII Predictions (2/5/2008 12:33:29 AM)

Orange : I have actually enjoyed our little debate, frustrating as it's been at times. and, like I said, I'm quite happy to have been wrong. In fact, I'm in no way a Pats fan, I'm a Jags fan, so your bandwagon comments have been a little puzzling. I've gotten just as sick of hearing about New England as every other football fan this year. On a side note...I do find it a little funny that a guy who's been preaching honesty and integrity in sports puts up a picture of Terrell Owens to back up an argument...[:D]

It matters what you look like when you are saying football players are fat. That is a picture of a kid in High School and he is probably from some small school and could be expected to play both sides of the ball. At the pro-level they do not have fat guys anymore. They may have some guys with a belly but they are probably running the 40 as fast as your soccer players, able to bench 400+ pounds and able to squat over 1,000 pounds.

The only soccer players I have any respect for are the central and south American ones where the guys play all out all game. The Europeans are like watching paint dry.

marcusm -> RE: Superbowl XLII Predictions (2/5/2008 12:42:54 AM)

I can find more if you like :).
I have seen "pro" NFL players close by and some of them were really fat.

English league games are really tough. If you want to see fit (non stereoid type) players i suggest you look up Fredrik Ljungberg. Need I mention Beckham? Being fit means really being fit not pumping iron and munching stereoids.

But like I said before. Real men play Hockey during Winters at least :). Grass is for picnics.

Real football is watched by billions not millions. Watching paint dry could be fun for some but there are many reasons why Football is called the Beatiful game, simply because it is. Nobody ever discusses the commersials during World Cup. Doesn't that say something? Becides being the fastest growing sport in USA that is

Just want to say something nice about NFL as well. I am glad for you that you don't have any hooligans in that sport. Those scum do very little to promote soccer. NFL is a game where you can bring your entire family without problems. This is the main reason I prefer going to hockey games, more civilized audience.

Well I am sure you weren't calling them fat to their face. I do not know what you are saying because pumping iron is good exercise. Soccer is cute and I like the fact that girls can play with guys. It is really special.

And this guy is supposed to be one of the best soccer players and he is not looking fit: [image]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y150/Saltlick/Sub3/fatRonaldo.jpg[/image]

I never got tired of it after years of them being in the basement but I know how you all feel. For years it was SF, Dallas, etc.... It seems to change every decade. I wonder how everyone feels about MLB always yapping about the Sox and Yankees?

I am from New York and went to Yankees games as a kid. But I hate the Yankees cause every loser grabs a Yankees cap and think they are cool. Now the New Yankees are the same but the cap changed from blue to red. The only thing is the New Yankees have only been good for a few years so I am not as sick of them.
