A couple of question about fighters.

1. Will fighters, mixed with bombers in a single air unit, conduct intercept missions?

2. Will fighters, that have exhausted their AP's in the last offensive turn, still conduct defensive intercept missions?

JAMiAM -> RE: Fighters (1/20/2008 3:19:39 AM)

1. Yes
2. Yes, provided that the range is within the limits set by their readiness. See the manual, section 10.4.6, for those radii.

JAMiAM - Got it. Thanks for the readiness reminder. Had completely slipped my mind.

Barthheart -> RE: Fighters (1/20/2008 4:35:42 AM)

1. Yes, but they will drag the bombers along for the fight! Not really a good thing.

Sorry, but thats wrong, they wont.

Barthheart -> RE: Fighters (1/20/2008 7:23:15 PM)

Wow, really?

I thought if a unit consisting of fighters plus either kind of bomber was set to intercept that the whole unit went to fight an intercept. That's why I always put fighters in separate units....

I know it's not the theme of this thread, but I'll use it. Similar area.

How can I asign squadrons their targets?
When I want a dive bomber and fighter escort to attack a certain hex, I always have 1 or 2 different squadrons attacking the same hex.
I can't seem to attack say 3 hexs with 3 different units. Always the one hex.

Ideas to what I'm doing wrong?

Mat

Delyn Locksmiths -> RE: Fighters (1/20/2008 9:21:30 PM)

click the hex, clicka ir attack, click to select the unit you want to make the attack, click the green tick to assign it to the attack, then click attack.

No idea if i understood right, but you can fly only one attack same time.
No "area attacks" to 3 nearby hexes to split the attack or something.
You can use one or more air units, but fly only to one hex.

In case the planes have enough AP over when they return (cause they killed/forced to retreat all defenders)
and there is still a enemy unit in range you can use the unit for another attack.
But mostly you have to keep your planes very close to the front to do this....very risky.

Thanks there mate.

Didn't realize that the Welsh were so clever[:'(]. (No insult intended)

But you really helped me out there. Was starting to spread my airforce out, well whats left of my Lutwaffe.And trying tp atack all over. Thanks very much.

Great when people really use the forum and spend their time answering stupid questions like mine.

No problem. I like to talk about planes and how to use them [:)]

If your Luftwaffe units are beaten itīs better to put the survivors in ONE unit and try to get local air superiority.
Spreading them means your Luftwaffe will be dead soon. Only by concentrating them you can cause some damage
(for a limited time...)

If you know the enemy has air units in range and you want to do a air attack near use ALL your fighters in range
for escort. Hit him hard as you can and pray that he doesnīt turn his production to fighters too fast.
If you lost air superiority as german in russia 1941 the game is over for you [;)]

I agree...Even with Better technology and more EXP you could be in serious trouble if the enemy has you outnumbered 3 to 1... Better to concentrate your forces.
