Dive Bomber1 -> v1.806 Scenario 15 Stock Allied opponent wanted (1/23/2008 3:40:58 AM)

My current pbem partners are becoming rather busy with Real Life commitments and so I've decided to try to fit in one more pbem game. As in my other pbems, I want to play the Japanese side in a Scenario 15 Stock game, version 1.806.

Why do I want to start another pbem? Well, because I want to try to avoid all of the many (and ugly) mistakes that I've made in my other pbems over the past year and a quarter. Some of the things that I want to avoid this time include:

- Trying to grab too much, too fast
- Splitting my forces into useless little bits
- Expanding my bases and industries too fast
- Running out of supplies in early Spring 1942
- Throwing away thousands of planes and pilots
- Losing LCUs into the morass of the Movement Rules
- Reacting to my opponents' moves instead of making my opponents react to me

In order to do this I have redone my "Standard Start" so that it bears little resemblance to the set-up that I started against AuTiger and my other opponents.

I play what I call a "Semi-Historical Start". That means that I only make the Historical attacks on Turn 1. I use the semi-historical start to allow me to reorganize my forces by doing the following sorts of things:

- Send all those transport and escort ships from the outskirts of the Empire back to the Home Islands where they are needed.
- Load the left-over fragments of the Day 1 invasion forces into additional ships so that I can invade with complete units
- Fill-in my air units as much as possible
- Send supplies and fuel out to my forward bases

What I don't do is:

- Invade "juicy" targets like Kendari, Amboina, etc. on Turn 1
- Position invasion TFs so that they are sitting one day's sail from juicy targets like Kendari, Amboina, etc.
- Attack ships in-port in Manila, Singapore or any other port than Pearl Harbor

Never-the-less, this does mean that I will be able to move more quickly in December 1941 than I would with a full Historical start.

I am not a fan of House Rules, except for the following:

I am generally opposed to the use of sub-borne troops to:

- Capture empty bases
- Block escape routes
- Find out how many troops are at a base via a Suicide landing

My attitude is that both sides should be willing to take "risks" and use paratroops, fast transport TFs, Transport planes, recon flights, bombardment TFs and so on, in order to accomplish the above actions.

BTW - I pay Political Points in order to bring any Manchurian air or ground unit out of Manchuria, or any Chinese air or ground unit out of China.

I have set up my Standard Start with the following conditions:

- PDU "On"
- Allied and Japanese Sub Doctrines "Off"
- Allied Accelerated Ship Repair "On"
- Historical Start "Off"
- December 7 Surprise "On"
- All Computer control "Off"
- Advanced Weather "Off"
- All base building, reinforcements, upgrades and replacements "Off"
- Combat Replay "On"
- Combat Reports "On"

Now, because I am only doing the historical attacks, and no more, the Allied player can only move his two US CV TFs that are already out at sea on the first turn. Everything else must be left "As Is". (And if you don't want to bother moving those two TFs, that is fine too, because I will be attacking Pearl Harbor on Turn 1, and not hunting US CVs.)

BTW II - I have messed up invasions of China, India, Burma, the Aleutians, and the South Pacific in my various pbems, but that doesn't mean that I won't try them again, or try other places.

BTW III - I usually can only do a turn a day. I am at GMT -5.

If you are interested, please send me a PM or an email.

Thanks - Dive

Son of Jorg has agreed to be my pbem opponent. I amended my original set up suggestions to allow him to move all Allied TFs that are at sea, move any forces within the Continental US, and also move any Chinese forces. That helps to go towards balancing out my preliminary movements around the Home Islands.
