Tankerace -> Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/24/2008 11:06:34 PM)

Hi guys. I'm needing some new testers. The game is not in Beta mode yet, but we are working hard to get it there and I need some good testers. Several have departed over the past year, and some are working on both AE and CF, with a couple seemingly ignoring Carrier Force altogether. So I need some new ones since the game is entering a playable state with new features added every week.

Only going to run this call until Saturday, because last time I got far more than I needed.

If you would be interested in joining the team, send an email to justinp@matrixgames.com. Please include name, age, location, how many hours a day or week you can commit to testing, and how much experience with the UV/WitP/WPO system you have.

Please, serious offers only. If you are not going to be able to test immediately, please do not apply. I have had a number of testers join, then have an abscence for a lengthy period, then drop altogether within a few weeks. I understand things come up, but at this late a date I need serious testers who can commit to testing the game and with the project through release and the first series of patches.

Please note I will require an email to consider you for the position, no PMs or forum posts (though you may post and email).

I will start contacting people tomorrow to get you set up with an NDA.

Thank you very much,

Justin Prince,
Producer, Carrier Force

Oleg, IIRC this is UV based game (for map and strategy) with tactical 15 minutes "slices" of hopefully true air ops and combat!

Also, Mike Wood supposed to be working on this (I think first announcement was in 2006)...

Justin is this all correct?

IMHO this sounds very interesting!

It's all correct, Leo...

Sorry Oleg, I am at work and can't make long posts - I knew someone would explain it all, sometime. [8D]

tsimmonds -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/26/2008 5:29:07 AM)

Mail sent.

I sent one the other day, just checking that you received it as there have been a few email troubles of late.[:)]

Akos Gergely -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/26/2008 9:59:40 PM)

I've sen t you an e-mail yesterday as well, but no reply so far :(...

Grotius -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/27/2008 12:10:39 AM)

I'm interested, but my schedule is too haphazard right now to commit to it. Good luck with it!

Tankerace -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/27/2008 9:58:30 AM)

Sorry for the delay. Had to go out of town for today, company muster for my Civil War Reenactment group.

Carrier Force is an enhanced version of Uncommon Valor, with a 15 minute tactical mode (in strategic one turn still equals one day, in tactical one turn equals 15 minutes). Emphasis is placed on carrier warfare, with players taking direct charge of flight deck operations (arming, spotting, launching, recovering, respoting, rearming, etc) as well as personal direction of targets, flights, scouting missions, etc.

While this is the emphasis, players get to do the same with LBA, as well as with scouting forces on smaller ships. We are also updating the naval model with some of the enhancements from WitP, as well as working in new things to take advantage of the 15 minute turn structure.

As to replying to beta testers to be fair I stated I would start at the end of today, to give all those who applied an equal chance. I had wanted something like 12 more, and had almost 40 applicants. I am beginning to contact people now, and by tomorrow or Monday you will know if you have been accepted.

[X(] So, would you say there was some interest?

Terminus -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/27/2008 5:59:36 PM)

Maybe just a bit...[:D]

ny59giants -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/27/2008 6:06:39 PM)

I've lost 5 American CV's to date in PBEMs to 1 Japanese CV.
Hopefully, I can reverse this trend. [:D]

Without gonig against my NDA, I can tell you that in CF if things go badly, you atleast feel like you had a chance and you lost more because you made bad decisions, or did not manage your carrier decks, elevators and launching sequence good enoguh. The amount of control is mindblowing to someone who has been playing WitP/UV for years and is used to holding his breath in a carrier battle to see what the AI decides to launch today [8|]

Between CF and WitP:AE, Ill wont need another new game until Henderson Games finishes WitP MK II in 2012 [:D]

E -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/28/2008 6:17:48 AM)

As a player who still has the original Carrier Force (for the ][), I wish I'd seen this thread sooner. ...so, got a release date YET? *grin*

sprior -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/28/2008 6:23:27 AM)

WiTP meets CF?

Sprior, ya, that would be the ultimate meeting I'd say.[&o]

Terminus -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/28/2008 3:07:32 PM)

Good Lord, no... It would be utterly unplayable...

I would have to agree. The scale would be huge. No, you dont understand. It would be HUGE. You would spend hours just getting through a 15 min turn. Instead of measuring how long it takes to complete a game in years, you would have to measure it in decades [:D]

Just imagine working through every airfield represented in WitP, decide what targets to hit, arm those aircraft, launch search planes, launch strikes, and react accordingly throughout the day. Just getting your patrols launched and in the correct place would take hours. And that would be just for one 15 minute turn.

All that being said, the UV scale is small enough to where you dont run into this problem. But even with the UV scale, its time consuming.

rtoolooze -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/28/2008 8:25:27 PM)

Unless the 15 min only pertained to carrier ops, and not the airfields. One can dream huh? [:D]

That we all can do [:)]

Akos Gergely -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (1/29/2008 9:50:23 AM)

OK, so if we haven't received a reply so far does that mean we are out of the "game"? :( Or do you send an e-mail for those who fail the requirements as well?

Ursa MAior -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (2/2/2008 7:42:14 PM)

Bump

sven6345789 -> RE: Second call for Carrier Force beta testers (2/2/2008 8:49:42 PM)

game sound a bit like the old "Carrier Strike", which had a similar engine like the old pacwar (which, btw, you can download here for free). In that game, you could also control the deckloads of your carriers, including the composition of your strikes. A very good game for the time.

"Carrier Strike" was a remake of Grigsby's 1983 "Carrier Force." Pacwar was a remake of Grigsby's 1986 "War in the South Pacific." (All of which still have places of honor in my closet *grin*).
