Koniev -> Reinforce Port Moresby??!! (2/10/2008 2:44:21 PM)

OK, this is getting frustrating!

I want to reinforce PM. I also want to try to pull the Aussie troops out of Rabaul - it can't be held anyway.

Everything is under Australian Command. NONE OF THE TROOPS WILL LOAD BECAUSE IT'S SOME KIND OF HALF-ASS RESTRICTED COMMAND!!!

Just why is this and how can I get around it. I've saved all my meager PP's in order to try to do this cause I knew it would cast some.

The only way I can figure out might make it possible is to change PM and all the units to SWPac Command. Will this work?

It's only Dec.8 - I figure I've got some time.

First of all, stop shouting. Second of all, don't bother with the Australian troops at Rabaul; there's not enough of them to make a difference at PM. They're a speed bump to slow down the Japs at Rabaul.

Save some more PP's and start by sending up 30th Australian Brigade to join the PM defence brigade.

A. What mod/scenario are you playing? CHS should allow much more leeway on PPs than stock.

B. Dec 8 is too early to be panicking about PPs

C. You can change PM to SWPac - but that isn't going to help you move restricted command troops.

D. Otherwise, move in non-restricted command troops to PM and build up forts as fast as you can (don't worry about airfield and port until you have the place secure).

E. Once you PPs are built up, you can move the guys at Rabaul... if they get beat up first, it decreases the cost of PPs needed to change their command (it is Assault Value dependent).

Sorry - won't bother you again.

Ah - T. has this thing about capital letters - i think his computer must read to him out loud and get increases the volume when the letters are large... [;)] [:D]

But, his advice is "sound"*.

*pun intended...

Terminus -> RE: Reinforce Port Moresby??!! (2/10/2008 3:50:33 PM)

It is general forum etiquette that CAPITAL LETTERS EQUALS SHOUTING.

But, in reality, shouting is largely upsetting because it is loud, while i usually can't hear the "shouting" from a post above the whir of the cooling fan. [;)]

Still...

rtrapasso -> RE: Reinforce Port Moresby??!! (2/10/2008 4:02:50 PM)

i understand that people can consider it a breach of etiquette, but you could also interpret it to just mean intense feelings...

Of course, many people consider it a breach of etiquette to show intense feelings... [:D]

If the Jap player wants to grab PM soon he is going to do anyways so you have to analyse the situation and your enemy moves and conclude...

Koniev, if you are playing the AI you have plenty of time to get troops into Port Moresby and Milne Bay. There are Australian troops that are assigned to SWPac command and they will do the job for you. There will also be US troops that can be shipped into place if you are efficient in handling your transport assets. A good first move would be to send some of the large, fast transports from India to the US west coast so as to increase your ability to get troops from the US to Oz as fast as possible.

ctangus -> RE: Reinforce Port Moresby??!! (2/10/2008 9:41:24 PM)

Against a human I'd say May is about the earliest PM could be viably defended. Even if you get a div there it does you no good if you can't keep it supplied. For that you need air superiority so that means fighters to protect your transports, bombers for counter-air missions, engineers to repair & expand the airfields, aviation support to keep the planes flying, AA, ground troops, etc.

May seems to be about the earliest you can pull that all together, depending on what else is going on. Even then it'd be no sure thing against a concentrated effort to take it.

Cavalry Corp -> RE: Reinforce Port Moresby??!! (2/11/2008 5:22:12 PM)

Its not how many troops you have but how much supply you can continue to deliver !!!

If Japs cut the supply then the more troops you put there the more will be lost

In both my PBEM I captured PM July / Aug 42

Yes. All they do is get one in trouble. [:D]

Q-Ball -> RE: Reinforce Port Moresby??!! (2/11/2008 7:55:54 PM)

PM seems like a trap for both sides, which makes it tough for EITHER side to reinforce it.

Allies, for the reasons mentioned; the more you put there, the more will be captured. In both my games as Japan, I captured extra base forces, even an HQ, that had been moved there for future use.

As Japan, you have a retreat route to Buna, but once late '42 rolls around the Allies can close the airstrip anytime. A landing at Milne Bay would effectively isolate those units, unless they spend the 2 months walking to Buna.
