waynef -> Downloading Scenario's (9/20/2000 6:58:00 PM)

With SPW@W there can be as many as 5 files to download for a scenario. Can anyone walk me thru where these files should be placed (which folders). ------------------ Thanks Wayne

Actually there should only be one file, a zip file. When you click on a scenario to download it, you should only get one file. Are you familiar with zip files? Inside of it are three files. There are a *.txt, a *.cmt, and a *.dat files. Those three files go into your scen sudirectory in SPWAW. If there are more than three, it would depend on their extension. Example, a *.shp file would go into the shp directory, a *.wav would go into the snd directory, and if there is an oob file (these don't have extensions), it would go into the main directory. I've never downloaded a scenario with 5 files but I'll try to help. The Scenxxx.dat, Scenxxx.txt and Scenxxx.cmt files go in the Steel Panthers World at War/SCEN folder. What are the additional file names?

CLARIFICATION If you downloaded a Campaign, the *.wav file goes in the CAMPAIGN folder with the campaign you downloaded. If the *.wav is a modification of the game's sound map (an explosion or gun sound, etc.), listen to it first to be sure its a suitable replacement for the existing game sound. This type of MOD goes in the SND folder. Save the original for safety before overwriting it. A *.shp file would indicate a game modification also. Be sure its what you want and save a copy of the original *.shp file in case you want to restore it.

One more thing, Wayne. Before you move those files into your scen directory, you have to make sure you're not writing over another scenario. Here is my procedure: 1) Download scenario to SPWAW/Temp 2) Look in SP Manager, or start up the game to see where you have an empty slot. 3)If the new scenario file numbers do not correspond to an empty slot, right click on each of the three files and hit "rename", and change the number to go into your empty slot. 4)Transfer the three files to the scenario file, then start up SPWAW and start playing! All of this takes about 1-2 minutes to do, and it is very easy. Have fun! Don

My confusion came from www.theblitz.org The scenario "Endangered Speices" has the following 5 files: pzmap51.cmt pzmap51.dat scen151.cm scen151.dat scen151.txt soo...where does pzmap51.cmt and pzmap51.dat go? Thanks

pzmap51.cmt and pzmap51.dat are the map files. They are imbedded in the scenario's *.dat file and aren't really necessary. Maybe the author included the map so it could be used for other battles. You can discard the map files put it in the map folder if its usable.

Well answered. One clarification. If a wav file comes in a campaign download, it should also go into the campaigns directory. That is the only way the game will use it. This is an exception to the general rule that other wav files go into the wav subdirectory.
