von Bult -> INFANTRY VS. TANKS (9/21/2000 2:55:00 AM)

Do infantry units assaulting a tank have to pass a "pre-AFV attack" morale check or is the influence of morale reflected in the percentage to hit/kill? I think they need their intestinal fortitude checked before they attempt the assault.

Yep, there is a morale check before assault. I dunno if you have noticed it yet but you will see occasions where a perfectly all right unit does nothing when ordered to assault, except it's suppression raises to 20+ due to failed check. Voriax

Yes, they do have a check before than assault. Not only that but if they don't pass they "scare themselves" (gain suppression) just for having the odacity thinking about it! I can understand that if they actually assault and fail, but... An interesting side note - it appears that assaulting a fort requires a similar check, even from the back and outside the firing arc of its guns. ------------------ (.) (.) ...V...

Owl, Actually, being ordered to assault an AFV, then chickening out would severely impact the morale of the squad. I'd argue that chickening out should have a greater kick to morale than trying and failing. At least you tried and gave it your best shot; you didn't disobey an order and wet your pants. Tommy

Well, i think it is quite easy to be brave in the front of your computer. think abaut the situtiation here. somebody really wants to kill you, and you just gotta be there for god knows reasons. i think it's quite realistic, that they chicken out, cause i know, while swearing at monitor point, i'd probable be wasting my pants at gun point. more so, if it was a tank. well, nobody can really tell how somebody would behave in actual combat. ------------------ JLaurila

The suppression without an attack is probably, "Oh Xt, look at that monster! Its gun is pointed right at us." I've noticed that the bigger the tank and the better the tank crew, the more likely that is to happen. The same section that will chew up a PzIIf and spit it out will 'ook it' when confronted with a Tiger. troopie ------------------ Pamwe Chete
