Alex Fiedler -> Matrix Games Announces the Titans of Steel Valentine’s Day Giveaway! (2/14/2008 7:09:18 AM)

Nothing says Valentines Day like some absolutely free futuristic destruction!

Matrix Games and Vicious Byte (www.viciousbyte.de) are proud to present fans with a fantastic Valentine’s Day gift: the full version of Titans of Steel: Warring Suns for absolutely free! Gamers can now download the classic futuristic tactical combat/RPG completely free of charge and enjoy the addicting gameplay that won it such rave reviews at its initial release.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Titans of Steel: Warring Suns may have been released several years ago, but the thrill of blowing apart a squad of heavily armored Titan-ATs has not diminished in the least over the years!”

The Titans of Steel: Warring Suns universe is a future where the main fighting unit is the Titan Attack Tech, better known as the Titan-AT. Titan-ATs are generally humanoid in appearance, range from seven to fifteen meters in height and weigh as much as 200 tons. A Titan-AT can have an array of weapons including lasers, auto cannons, missile launchers and other specialty weapons and defensive systems.

Titans of Steel: Warring Suns allows you to design or reconfigure your own Titan-AT. There are 450 different Titan-AT types to start with, including 150 pre-designed Titan-ATs. Each Titan-AT has over 74 internal systems, electronics systems, 4 armor types, 20 chassis styles, 5 size classes (recon, light, medium, heavy, assault) and 29 weapon types ranging from conventional to exotic. Once you've settled on your perfect Titan-AT, you can share your design with other commanders.

Titans of Steel: Warring Suns is more than a combat game. It is also a fully open ended role playing system designed to allow you to choose between eight different race and gender combination. All your pilots have a full statistics sheet and earn experience points. These experience points can be used to increase 7 attributes and 19 skills. Your pilots can go up in rank and will benefit from additional training. They are assembled in squads, which can have 8 pilots and up to 16 Titan-ATs.

Download the full version of the game absolutely free right here.

Ok, I have tried to download some of the patches for games I own, and I cannot get them to work either. I also tried to download the promotional video for Max Football. Same problem.

I keep getting an error message saying:   FTP session was terminated.   Maybe too much traffic?

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix Games Announces the Titans of Steel Valentine’s Day Giveaway! (2/14/2008 10:17:09 PM)

Hey Everyone,

It seems we had so much interest in this that our FTP server is getting completely slammed with traffic. If you keep retrying, you should get a connection. In the meantime, it's mirrored at Strategy Informer and we're working to get a few more mirrors setup.

Regards,

- Erik

Cool... unless you are trying to download something else, presumably! [X(] Great to see what is an excellent game being given a new lease of life in this way.

Hi Erik,   Thanks for this offer.  Is this free offer only for today?  I havent had any luck so far today.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix Games Announces the Titans of Steel Valentine’s Day Giveaway! (2/15/2008 2:45:35 AM)

This is permanent - TOS is now a free game and will remain so, just like (for example) War in Russia and Steel Panthers World at War.

Thanks Eric and Matrix

Veldor -> RE: Matrix Games Announces the Titans of Steel Valentine’s Day Giveaway! (2/15/2008 3:49:01 AM)

Can all the people who are downloading it right now please stop so that I can? Thanks in advance..

To whomever is composing a whining post about how they had to pay for the game... Please spare us this time around.. TIA again..

To Matrix/Devs.. You guys are too cool.. THANKS! [&o]

PS. For those cool cats that know how... even though there is apparantly a limit on web-based ftp connections, you can in fact force an ftp connection by using the DOS FTP client in XP/Vista (mget, lcd and that sort of thing through the anonymous account). I was able to download everything that way despite continued denial by the weblink itself.....

Probably not helpful if lots simultaneously circumvent the system like that though [:D]

The mirrors on strategy informer are Ok, thanks Matrix [:)]

Has Matrix released any other games for Free?

Has the source code been released for ToS? OR Does the EDITOR allow plenty of control?

Dig

Sure - Steel Panthers World at War, War in Russia and Pacific War.

No, we haven't released the source code, but if someone is really interested in that I supposed we could ask the developer if it's available. The editing tools in the game are pretty powerful, but the point was just to make the full game package in its final form available for free.

LarkinVB -> RE: Matrix Games Announces the Titans of Steel Valentine’s Day Giveaway! (3/9/2008 4:27:18 PM)

The source code is so ugly that it would take weeks to clean it up and make it readable. It better stays hidden from public, better for all of us [;)]. It is exciting how good a game can be while based on these lines of code.
