Monadman -> Exchanging battle files in PBEM games (2/17/2008 10:11:28 PM)

For those in need of assistance I offer this hands on approach.

IMPORTANT: This is a test for players that wish to learn the current method of exchanging battle files; there will be no further action taken after this battle has been concluded. If you already know how to exchange battle files please refrain from using these instructions so that I may concentrate on those that really need the assistance, else it will greatly slowdown my involvement.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download the file attached to this post and unzip it
2. Copy and paste the two saved games files “TestBattle.sav” and “TestBattle.sav.dat” to the EiANW “Save” folder. (Note: the attacker never sends his/her saved game files to the defender, this is only being done for the purpose of this test. Normally the only files sent to the defender are the land phase turn file and the battle file – see #3 and #4 below)
3. Copy and paste the French Land Phase file “TestBattle_France_1805_January_Land.pbm” to the EiANW “commin” folder
4. Copy and paste the battle file “pbembattle_TestBattle_Mantua0.battle” to the EiANW “Battles” folder
5. Start program and load the saved game file “TestBattle.sav” and resume game
6. Use the “Load PBEM Turn File” button found on the top menu bar to load the French Land Phase file “TestBattle_France_1805_January_Land.pbm”
7. Click on the Mantua area in Venetia to open battle screen
8. Make chit selection for Austria then click the “done” button to initiate the first round
9. Click the “done” again to leave battle screen

Zip and attach the battle file found in the EiANW “Battles” folder to a new post in this thread and I will respond in kind and exchange battle files until this battle has been resolved. When you receive a battle file back from me (posted here), always copy, paste and overwrite the battle file “pbembattle_TestBattle_Mantua0.battle” in the EiANW “Battles” folder then load the saved game file “TestBattle.sav” and resume the battle by clicking the Mantua area.

Best way to learn is by doing.

Richard

Praem,

What version are you working with? I noticed a line up of meaningless icons (e.g. fleets and artillery) along the bottom left of the battle screen. A sign that some sort of issue but not sure what yet.

Monadman -> RE: Exchanging battle files in PBEM games (2/19/2008 12:57:41 AM)

Praem,

No pursuit was made so that we can conclude this battle. Note: win or lose, the battle always concludes with the attacker receiving the last file exchange in order to either start the next battle (if any) or advance the game, thus creating a land combat turn file (which is attached in case you would like to see that).

Now, obviously it did not happen this way for you and your opponent(s) so the question is, after these battle file exchanges; do you feel as if there was human error involved in your prior battles or do we still have a bug to look for?

Richard

It feels the same - but I'll retry before judging - the problem was starting second battle... I'll get back to you
