This is the distribution parameters I'm planning on applying to my league pre-draft / assignment using JD's editor. I don't know who all will be able to make heads or tails of it without seeing the curves, but I think it represents a realistic balance / distribution, but I'd like to get some second opinions.

Marauders -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/19/2008 5:46:40 PM)

The nice thing about the utility is the mean.

At first, I thought the pass catching of the WR may be low, but I noticed the mean pushed the curve forward.

That allows for a Troy Williamson type player that looks great until the ball bounces off his chest.

dreamtheatervt -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/19/2008 5:57:18 PM)

I like the mean coupled with the deviation.  Top end speed is rare, so I can give it a low deviation, whereas receivers with excellent hands are more common, so I increased the deviation on that attribute.

I'm more interested in seeing whether or not people on here agree or disagree with these untested values.

jdhalfrack -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/19/2008 8:49:44 PM)

Hey, just a heads up. If you're using the randomizer for player heights, the min value cannot be lower than 65 (which represents 5'5") and the max value cannot be higher than 84 (which represents 7'0").

I like what you have here. I think some values seem a tad weird (like a 70 max for QB catching) but overall looks good.

JD

dreamtheatervt -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/19/2008 8:55:48 PM)

Thanks for the heads up on heights.  I didn't know how height and weight worked, so I left them blank.  70 is only a max value for QB catching, and it really won't mean much until Dave lets us start making reverses, end-arounds, and QB throwback passes, which is why I didn't put means and deviations for catching.

Thanks again for the editor :)

JD,

Do you know hot the weight translates on the 0-99 scale?

DONMVP -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/23/2008 7:30:43 AM)

YOU BEAT ME TO IT WAS GOING TO ASK ABOUT THE WEIGHT ALSO .

IT really doesn't... whoops. If you use the random generator for weight, you will end up with weights below 100 pounds. That's because I HAVE to limit the text box to 2 digits otherwise people would edit speed and things to value above what are allowed. I need to make it so that when the option to edit weight is selected, the max number of digits allowe is three. I will work on that for next release. Sorry!

Also, as far as the overflow error goes, I was aware of this happening when I was tesing it, but I thought I fixed it... damnit. If and when it happend again, try to remember EXACTLY what values you had just put it and what you were trying to replace them with. Sorry, I can't be more help with this right now.

JD

dreamtheatervt -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/23/2008 6:37:41 PM)

The weight randomizer isn't that big of a deal.  It was nice that height really just broke down to inches.

I may have been incorrect, I only seem to get the overflow error when typing in a new max value, particularly when I try to put 80 or 85 in there, but it's hit of miss.

BigSmooth -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/23/2008 7:48:29 PM)

I reset my solo USFL league in order to give your randomizer a shot. I did not mess with the height/ weight though. I randomized the attributes by position prior to the initial draft. I saved the database each time I updated an attribute in case I got the overflow error. It took a little while, but the results look interesting.

Interesting! What kind of stats do you see?

I will workon the overflow thing as soon as I can figure out when and why it happens...

I'm glad you guys are experimenting around with it, though!

BigSmooth -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/23/2008 11:25:38 PM)

I've yet to run any games, but I will post them on the online leagues thread when I play a few.

dreamtheatervt -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (2/23/2008 11:42:20 PM)

I played a quick game last night.  The team I used has a stud HB, but this seemes pretty like a good starting point.  Most LB's can't match HB's speed, but still make plenty of plays due to good pursuit angles.  I broke one big play on offense, but a big part of that was because the stud HB made a DE miss in the backfield, and he hit the jets after that.  Both teams completed around 50%, but I still need to put the finishing touches on my passing plays and defences.

I need to tweak my playbook to compensate for the adjustments I made, and after that I may need to tweak the attributes - and I'm more than willing to hear other peoples input, especially if they use/tinker with my ratings.

Bump for Regenerator

regenerator -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/18/2008 10:54:19 PM)

So did these ratings wind up working out for you? I don't understand one repeated theme throughout many posts on this forum, that being that playbooks will have such a seemingly vast effect on stats. I understand that good plays can help an offense or defense perform better, but overall I don't see as how that should have an effect on the league statistics as a whole...

chad56s -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/20/2008 4:50:38 AM)

As far as the playbooks are concerned, I'm thinking that it's more a function of the offensive and defensive profiles.  I'm still struggling with stats myself.  My games, despite having started to use other and supposedly better playbooks, are still mired by pathetic offenses.  The most points I've ever seen scored in a game (combined score of both teams) is 20.  The score was 14-6 and I was ecstatic!  Now mind you I've only played, probably, less than 20 games.

Still working on it, though.

Mykal -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/20/2008 11:40:36 AM)

interesting, very

DONMVP -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/20/2008 6:31:45 PM)

I used  some of that chart the last 2 days  . I changed the setting on my  defensive linemen  and line backers , to  see if i  might see more interceptions by both .First thing i noticed  was  scoring out puts dropped  a lot  went from  60  to  80 points combined  down to  24  or less . Had scores  17  to 7  , and 16 to 0  , Did`nt see int from those positions . But noticed more  passes  knocked down at line  and  across the middle . Seems like  it took  a lot of crossing patterns across the middle away and  anything  down the middle completed  was for about 10 yrds. Saw QB  passing stats  drop to a little over 250  yrds , from  what they use to get which  was 350  to  600 yrds . Also  a big increase in rushing stats. Both in carries  and yardage  . That i did`nt mind seeing , saw my first 2 runners  get over 100 yds  in my season . In week six of  cfl league  with 20 teams. Anyway ,  i like some things to  that  chart . Definately  there  room to play  with it . Going  to play  next game or  2 with  LB and DL  TONED DOWN , Mainly  hands , catching and coverage . See  what results our like . I think  it  might have to do more with coverage .  Anyway its still  a great  chart  you made .

DONMVP -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/20/2008 6:36:54 PM)

Oh those  games were also  CPU  TO CPU .   In  case anybody ask .

mbsports -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/20/2008 9:05:29 PM)

Is there anyway to download said spreadhseet above?  I'm working on a CIS setup and something like that would be totally invaluable.

Mykal -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/20/2008 9:47:41 PM)

I saved the graphic last week MB
for later use
eventually i'll find the time to do it..........hahahaha........one day.

having the spread sheet laid out would be much easier

dreamtheatervt -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/21/2008 1:02:07 AM)

I don't even have the spread sheet anymore so I can't provide it- I formatted my HD a while ago and forgot to save that file; sorry about that.

Batted passes at the LOS might be more a function of playbook.

Don,

It sounds like you got some pretty good stats I take it?  I don't know what CFL stats look like, but 250 passing and over 100 rushing sounds like an average NFL game.

regenerator -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/22/2008 11:47:20 PM)

Dreamtheatervt - Have a question: I've been changing my player positions to use your ratings distributions and things looked fine until I got to the Tight End position. Everyone's overall rating at TE became very low. Did you have this problem? Seems like maybe their ratings need to be adjusted a bit?

Also, do you use your own playbooks or downloaded ones? What are your stats like? Do you play NFL type leagues?

dreamtheatervt -> RE: My player attribute randomizer (7/30/2008 6:09:32 AM)

I don't have a program to look at overall ratings, so I don't know about that, but I focus more on how they perform assignments, and in that aspect my TE's block and catch appropriately.  I have no idea how the overall rating generator you use calculates it, but the person who wrote it may value skills differently than I do, and someone else could have a completely different idea - which is why I'm generally glad David has not included it.

I use my own playbooks for now.  My pro offense / 43 defense is available on my server (look in 3rd party utilities), it is chock full of plays, but I haven't done the profile to get correct situational play calling.  I also am currently working on a balanced spread offense / 335 defense which I have not made available yet, but will do so in the future.

Stat's seem to be very reasonable in my quick games I use to test plays for an evenly matched college football or pro game.
