HELP!!!

After a machine crash-and-rebuild, what *was* an install on drive "C:" is now, on the same drive, on drive "D:"

Needless to say, it won't run.

I can't recall how to reinstall the game or tell it that it's now on another drive, in another machine.

I have the serial number, but I can't figure out how to get the d**n file down from Matrix, and... it's driving me crazy!

Steve.

What's the problem exactly... you can't download?

Go to the Member's section and log in - then download:

Er... download *what*? All I get from there is the option to download the editor?

But thanks. :-)

Ooops - actually you can go here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/games/downloads.asp?gid=294

You need to install your original files from disk, then download and install 1.804 comprehensive, then 1.806 revised.

If you don't have the original files, you will have to obtain them first... either from backup disk or redownload from Digital River (you will need original credit card number, iirc.)

Thanks!

I'll need to go to DR.

The *really* annoying thing is that all the files are *still there* on the old drive, I just can't run the ruddy game!

Still - WitP is worth it, frustrations and all.

Steve.

What kind of error do you get when you try running the game?

Roger Neilson II -> RE: Help on reinstall (2/22/2008 10:51:10 PM)

It will need a fresh install so that it writes whatever to the windows registry, after that it doesn't care where the game is, or how many - I have four different installs!

But you need the download to do the install - burn it to disc afterwards just in case.

Roger

Best not to do multiple installs... many people end up with "Fatal Error" something or other trying to do this... the safest and easiest way to just to copy the folder and rename it, and do any mods necessary on that...

Heh... I've been using multiple installs for years and have never had that problem... for once I'm lucky!

Duh, stoopid use of language on my part. I did mean copy..... yuo are only limited by the size of the hard disc how many separate WITPs you have on your PC - I find this the easiest way to have different mods and games running.

Oooh, that sounds like an old code... but pretty much all "Fatal Error" codes require a reinstall...[:(]

steveh11Matrix -> RE: Help on reinstall (3/13/2008 3:11:36 PM)

Okay. I'm back up and running.

I found the old install .exe, and the serial number text file. :) Of course, all that remained was to install 1.5, upgrade to 1.8.0.4, upgrade *that* to 1.8.0.6, download Andrew Brown's maps, download CHS, find where I'd put WitPEditorX...

The line was busy last night!

Anyway, thanks for the pointers. A successful re-install. Now for some fun!

Steve.
