Historiker -> get envious! (2/24/2008 1:10:13 AM)

My sister is celebrating her affiance in England next week. I will participate in the celebrations but will use the time...
for a visit in
a) the Bovington Tank Museum with over 300 tanks!
b) the Imperial War Museum
c) the Imperial War Museum Duxford with over 200 planes!

my digital camera will be with me! :)

Hopefully you'll provide some pics to the forum. I've been wanting to go to the Imperial War Museum for more years than I can count, but I haven't arranged it yet.

Historiker -> RE: get envious! (2/24/2008 1:23:33 AM)

I dream of visiting it and Bovington for about 15 years now as well! And yes, I will show you some pics! :)

BTW: If there's the time, Iwll visit the HMS Belfast as well :)

I must say the area out in Arizona with like 15,000+ dead aircraft and a museum was a cool place to visit. The SR-71 and many other planes.[8D] Fun trip.

Haven't been to Duxford for years, but would say it and Bovington were likely to be more impressive than IWM London which is quite small - though some nice stuff and you can get right up close. Two other ones worth a look are in Brussels and Saumur in France.

Pffft. No envy here. I can get to all of em within 2 hours[:'(][;)]

I even wasn't at Munster, yet!
Kubinka, Munster and Saumur are on my list as well. I guess they'll be visited within the next two years.

As long as you are in London, you might want to take the tube out to Hendon, the RAF museum. It truly is one of the world's great air musem. It also has the Battle of Britan museum , and 8thAF/Bomber Command musem.

If you find yourself in the south of England , the city of Pourtsmouth has a magnificent collections of military/Naval museums. Too many to list here , but everyone worth seeing! Enjoy your visit! [:D]

I''m afraid there won't be the time for all of this as I have to write an article with the subject "War and Army in the times of the enlightenment" until end of march [:(]

But I've found out that I can get both flights to London and back for only 20 Euro so there'll be another chance! [:)]

Please, please, please visit the Belfast then insist it was not the largest British cruiser ever, and that Hood was bigger. Please.

Unlike Hood (which was a Battle cruiser , not a light cruiser) HMS Belfast is wonderfully preserved, also worth a visit![:D]
