Here's the 40mikemikes we used...

Mk19 vs VBIED

Knavey -> RE: OT: Short Vid of 40mm firing (2/28/2008 6:07:08 AM)

Was wondering if the guys in the second video could actually hit anything...and then decided it would only take one hit when that thing went up!  Holy crap that thing was big.

Those guys couldn't use that thing for diddly, you're right. We used to shoot goats over on the big island with those things.[:D]

Was that first video modern? If so what navy?

TOMLABEL -> RE: OT: Short Vid of 40mm firing (2/28/2008 6:34:30 AM)

I didn't realize that the Bofors was still in use by the U.S. except for the USAF's gunships.

There are two gents seated at the gun, one on either side.

Also notice that there are shell casings droping to the deck, inside the gun tub, in front of the gun. (Easier to see them when the smoke clears.)

I don't know who's ship this is.

It scared the bejezus out of them when they finally hit the target. [:D] Then, I heard one voice say, "I think I got it." [:D][sm=00000280.gif]

From wiki:

quote:

The L/60 saw active service with the Royal Navy in the 1982 Falklands War and continued to be used into the 1990s, when it was replaced by modern 20- and 30-mm artillery.
The Canadian Forces also used Bofors on their surface fleet, but removed the guns in the late 1980s when they were considered to be outdated. In a somewhat embarrassing episode, the navy was forced to scour various military museums across Canada to re-equip their fleet during the Gulf War, as replacements had never been purchased. The L/60 Bofors continue to be the main armament of the Canadian Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel (MCDV), although the navy is in the midst of a search for a suitable replacement.

In August 2006, the French navy uses L/60s on more than twenty ships (patrols and auxiliaries). Ships of the Norwegian and Icelandic Coast Guards continue to use the 40mm Bofors gun. The L/60 continued in use in the Irish Army until recent years, when it was retired in favour of the radar controlled L/70. Three vessels of the Irish Naval Service retain L/60s on board as their main weapon. Two retired L/60s can be seen adjacent the square in Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick.
