Are friendly fire incidents possible in WiTP?

I was playing the Allies versus an AI controlled Japan.

I had some Manila based PBY's on Night Attack.

During the turn resolution, the PBY's launch a naval attack (combat replay animation)... on one of my own subs in the Luzon Straits! They scored a single hit. Sub not sunk, but needed yard time.

Has anyone else seen something similar?

Well hitting your own mines is certainly a possibility. I've never had my own air forces attack a friendly unit before though
