emcgman -> Am I a Super Play Calling Genius, Or..? (3/6/2008 5:42:48 PM)

I just got the game 2 days ago. I've played some Madden in the past, but nothing serious or online against humans.

My default Chicago team of the default USA League has just beat Oakland 84 to 0. I played in `Coach' mode, just calling the plays. I chose `League' from the menu, as opposed to `Quick play'.

They didn't stand a chance. Is the default Oakland team really that bad, or should I send a resume around to the NFL?

Or, am I missing something else as far as the challenge of the game goes.

EDIT: ok, I'm playing Cleveland now, and getting a worthy challenge. Does it take the AI a game or 2 to adjust?

Also, is there a way to change the controls in game, ie; from Coach mode to Computer mode for example?

Thanks

Which playbook did Oakland use?

Playbooks and gameplans can make a big difference.

No, not once the game has started.

Welcome to the community, and thank you for posting your observations.

It looks like Oakland used the `Fun and Gun' playbook by default.

Is this an `easier' level of play?

If so, then should I adjust the default playbooks of the AI teams, and if so, what are the tougher playbooks to play against?

Thanks

Hi and welcome.

Fun and Gun is a very generic playbook. Most of the gamers find that switching to one of the other playbooks adds more challenge. There are also playbooks you can download from a couple of different websites.

Did you finish the Oakland game completely? If so, would you mind sending the gamelog for that game to me? (PM attachment)? I'd like to see what plays you were calling vs the CPU. I'm currently finalling play balancing version 2.2 so your game would be a good test case.

thanks
David

The Fun and Gun is the old default playbook for the American game.  The plays have not been updated much.

I do have some updated formations and plays for the Fun and Gun that would make it much better.

I use the fun and gun playbooks almost exclusively. However, I watch most games, 15 minute quarters, and I've never seen anything even close to that. And I'm embarrassed to say the last game I coached versus the PC defeated me 31-10. The PC scored 24 points in the first quarter before I slowed the game down and stopped it's passing game.

Oakland? Raiders...I'm not surprised 84-0. I can say that because I'm a Raider fan.

emcgman, hang in there. Max does require a little work to get teams set up and competetive. The main thing is to find the good playbooks from www.fbmax.com

Try this one
http://www.fbmax.com/uploads/Winnipeg-MLF.zip

Dont use it yourself, but coach against it.....its a good one.

Drop the winnipeg.pbk file in your 'Plays' folder
Drop the 'Playbook_Export_Winnipeg' folder in the C:\Matrix Games\Maximum-Football directory
Then open the mfb-util.exe and load the winnipeg playbook
The click 'Import book' and select 'Playbook_Export_Winnipeg'

You have now imported the playbook into the game for use. Assign it to a team and good luck.

emcgman, I wasnt assuming you didnt know how to import a playbook, by the way.
Just thought I would throw the general instructions in there in case someone that didnt wanted to try some downloaded playbooks, and hadnt done it before.

This file has 6 good playbooks also. Nice plays and situations set up.
They are called Coach_Allen_4_3 and similar names

Thank you, I really appreciate the links and the detailed instructions. You saved me from having to ask another noob question. [:D]

Cleveland gave me a good game, which I won 21-12, but it wasn't easy. Cleveland was using the 11 pro 34 def playbook.

I bought the game because of the ability to create the Gameplans and then watch your team, but Coach mode has turned out to be more fun than I anticipated, so I am going to wait for the update before I begin the Gameplan project.

Max Football really comes through with some nice features; I really like the in-game, on screen info tool bar and windows, and the big red 1st and ten arrow. It's simple stuff, but tells you exactly what you want to know during the game in a very clear manner.

Maybe I am just a die hard Beatles fan, but every time I read your posts, I see eggman as your screen name. [:)]

On a side note, I have almost completed the update for the Fun and Gun playbook.  It isn't a total revamp, but it should be much better competition.

With 2.2, there will be the option of snake drafts, so Oakland and Washington won't be on the sore end of each draft round when a league is created.

I am sure the owners of the Zebras, Unicorns, and Umber Hulks will be pleased.
