misesfan -> Couple of Noobish Questions (3/18/2008 9:21:37 AM)

I just bought the game and really do like it. I have been looking on the forums and a little bit of the manual for the answers to some basic questions, but I couldnt find any.

1. When you select an enemy target if you have good recon you can see arrows on the hexside pointing out. I was wondering if this is some sort of facing mechanism, and if you attack along a non-arrowed hexside you get better Concentration.
2. What does everyone do with production - do you normally assign it to your supreme HQ or do you assign it to your individual army HQ? I know you need some LANDCAP (i.e. trucks) as a subformation - I was wondering what strategy seems to work best.
3. What is the best strategy for playing against AI+? Man, I get pasted when playing the AI+, and thought some people might have some good strategies. My armies get crushed everytime. :)
4. I love the scenarios, and am a bit of an Eastern Front buff. I am going to try my hand at the division level scenario, and if anyone is interested in a game please let me know. The included scenario seems a bit hinckey to me though. Month long turns seems to cause problem I think - Maybe I need to work on my offensives a bit. Anyone else think the same?

Great game though!

These are hexes that your unit can reach. You want to try to attack from multiple hexes with different units if possible, that way you get bonuses, opposit hexes are best.

I think most folks, assign production (at least supplies) to their supreme HQ, then dole it out from there. I'm not sure about weapon production though.

For some email opponenet, you might try posting in the opponents wanted section. Also, check out the community forum, there are ladders with opponents there as well as other scenarios. (http://www.advancedtactics.org/)

Welcome aboard and good luck!

For supply, I prefer sending it all to the supreme HQ and have it handle the rest, since automatic supply movement is free. But with new units (subformations), it might be better to send them directly to the subordinate HQs, because it can save a lot of expensive transport capacity.

In addition what is said above you should also send units to subordinate HQ's as readiness is reduced if the unit is tranferred from a HQ that is not attached to the unit.

Very good point about the readiness decline when you change formations. I completely overlooked that. And then you can use HQ's as natural rally points to reduce the cost when transferring subformations. Hey, I might understand this game yet. :)
