Karri -> Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/20/2008 8:49:25 PM)

http://www.armoredbrigade.com/

Take a look, I think it's pretty interesting. Can we get up a good community and make this more popular than SPWAW?

Terminus -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/20/2008 9:40:10 PM)

Off hand, I'd say no...

Zakhal -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/20/2008 9:58:57 PM)

I think it could use som graphics. My main grief with spwaw is that after ten years it looks like a crap stain on the screen of 32" LCD.

Grell -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/20/2008 10:14:35 PM)

I'm not impressed.

Grell

Phatguy -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/21/2008 12:52:07 AM)

But its free so i can give em a break.

Custer1961 -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/21/2008 1:05:52 AM)

I played one scenario for about 25 minutes of game time.  I am impressed.  It strikes me as similar to TacOps but with the incredibly important ability of a scenario maker.

Already, I feel that the AI's use of artillery is much better than Steel Panthers.  The AI used artillery to nail me a few times.

In the end.......... I will play this game again and think it has the foundation for success.  I like it.

marcusm -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/21/2008 5:24:47 AM)

Hehe. Not often you see Finland in a wargame focusing on armored combat.

Finns are supposed to use skiis and swiss army knives as main weapon (and a bottle of Kossu as power drink) ;).

Erik Rutins -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/21/2008 5:26:38 AM)

It's quite impressive actually. Considering it's a pre-release and freeware, apparently developed by one individual, I think it has tremendous potential and shows off some great design and development work so far.

If you want to see a truly impressive AI utilization of artillery take a look at Conquest of the Aegean!

Hertston -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/21/2008 2:22:38 PM)

Very promising IMHO, and very playable for something at that stage of development. I'm a sucker for anything in that time period, though... I hope he doesn't move on to the threatened '39 to '45 stuff until that game is pretty much sorted.

IM(V)HO Matrix would do far better picking up and nurturing this than fannying about with assorted re-releases nobody seems to buying. Still, what do I know.

Hartford688 -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/21/2008 9:11:38 PM)

I agree. And for period, I would prefer the later modern rather than WWII.

Very impressive.

Hi,
I agree. I think the COTA game is the best out there.

Rooster -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/22/2008 5:15:54 AM)

Very very cool game.  I think you've got something really cool here.

Jeffrey H. -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/22/2008 8:49:10 PM)

Interesting choise of time period and theater. It does have the "feel" of CoTA just looking at the screenies.

Might be fun, who knows. Seems like all the basics are there for a fun game.

junk2drive -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/22/2008 8:58:26 PM)

This was posted at Shrapnel's WinSPMBT forum in a thread about remaking MBT

Maybe not, the closest (and almost identical) thing to SPMBT in real time youīre going to find, with the same type of graphics and 2D top view, is Armoredbrigade. Iīve been testing it for a couple of months now and I think it is very promising and I widely recomend it. It has an order-while-paused feature so you have all the time you want to think with pretty decent detail. Itīs a free download

Main page: www.armoredbrigade.com

Download v4.20: www.armoredbrigade.com/download.html

The full game files take only 23Mb on your desktop with no install neded, just downlad the ZIP, extract and run the exe. I understand itīs made with a tool named "clanlib" which seems pretty functional, never crashed once.

Regards
Roberto

I don't do RealTime games but at least this one is order while paused. I tried the TacOps demo and found it a little hard to grasp. TacOps is platoon level and WEGO.

Nice to see something new other than Close Combat and Steel Panthers. I'll give this a try when my other projects are finished.

Grell -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/23/2008 12:27:50 AM)

Okay, I was originally unimpressed however after having taken a second look this game has potential. I can see this game doing well.

Grell

sabre1 -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/23/2008 6:35:47 AM)

So how does this game differ from ProSim's ATF/BCT RTS simulations?

junk2drive -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/23/2008 7:08:28 AM)

It seems all the activity has broken the website.

For starters it's free.

junk2drive -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/23/2008 7:17:53 AM)

panzers -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/25/2008 12:37:16 AM)

Opened up the link, first thing I saw was real time engine. That's all I needed to know about the game. real time BLOWS!

benpark -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/25/2008 2:44:53 AM)

It's got a lot of potential. I hope the developer gets around to the WWII version in the near future.

marcusm -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/25/2008 1:27:55 PM)

I don't think it's even possible create a sim like this in turn based mode and keep
some realism. This is one of the wargame types that needs to be in realtime in my opinion.

What's wrong with Panther games engine btw? I thought most liked their implementation of realtime.

Widell -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/25/2008 7:27:35 PM)

Hey marcus - That's a can of worms you just opened. Just look and see what the next 5 - 10 posts will be like: [sm=00000055.gif] Me? I like both, prefer turn based, but love the HTTR/CotA real time implementation. That opinion is not shared by everyone around here.....[;)]

marcusm -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/25/2008 7:38:08 PM)

Same here. Only reason I didn't buy CoTA, is the theme. When they reach East Front then I am buying :).
On the other hand, I did buy the first game when they were with Battlefront.

When will they remake FireBrigade?

Karri -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/28/2008 8:19:53 PM)

http://www.armoredbrigade.com/forums/index.php

There's a forum now there.

And you want eastern front? We'll go ahead and volunteer to do some OOB/TO&E's ;)

old man of the sea -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/28/2008 8:30:42 PM)

After downloading it and poking around in it I think this could one great game.

I know for sure that about three weeks of art work would make this look as good as any 2D game out there.

Karri -> RE: Armored Brigade - New freeware game (3/28/2008 8:33:36 PM)

I did contact the guy who made this a week back, and he did say he could really use some help with the graphics.
