This just happen or at least it was reported as happening in the operational report. The Daitai was aboard the Shokaku and was set to upgrade when it reached port, which it did.

'EI-1 Daitai converting to A6M3a Zero aboard Empire Lightning'

John Lansford -> RE: Japanese planes on BR ship? (3/27/2008 1:49:32 PM)

Quick, send the Empire Lightning off to Karachi and don't unload her cargo!  I'm sure the Brits would love to have a full squadron of Zeros to evaluate... [;)]

I had a similar thing for the FPs of Myoko. I don't remeber which ship was named, but it was also an AK or AV.
But the planes were definately aboard Myoko.

Clearly a bug, but no gamebreaker methinks[;)]

I've noticed all my float plane units do that. The always upgrade aboard 'Empire XXXX' even though they are still happily aboard my Japanese ships.

That is unusual.

Regards,

Grell

Likewise.

The same also happens for the Allies - you can see messages that some Allied carrier squadron has upgraded aboard a Japanese ship. I suspect something is wrong in the bit of code that gets the ship name. Maybe (at a guess) the Allied and Japanese ships are listed in numerical order somewhere and the code just picks ship number X in a long array of names, but picks from the array for the wrong side?

Mark VII -> RE: Japanese planes on BR ship? (3/28/2008 1:01:26 AM)

I had the occasional USN ship captained by a Japanese officer. You get over it.

JeffroK -> RE: Japanese planes on BR ship? (3/28/2008 3:38:27 AM)

I believe that the message is hard coded to the vessel slot in vanilla WITP so when you play a mod that has has the ships rearranged it comes up with the old message.

I would double check the location of the unit upgraded, I'm sure you will find them safely abourd the right vessel.

I've never seen this. Of course, I don't allow automatic upgrades. I choose when each of my squadrons gets its upgrade... [:'(]

It happens to me all the time in the stock campaign game, so it must be something else.

True.

Can we have an argument about this? I'll take the "it's not historically plausible" side if someone else will defend it on the grounds that just because it didn't happen doesn't mean that the Allied player should be forced to stick with the historical trajectory. [;)]

I used to have something like this happen almost every game in old GGPW. I recall once seizing Lae and suddenly having an IJA labor battalion in my LCU list. At first I figured it was some sort of cosmic ploy at infiltration, but when I realized I could activate the unit, move it, and assign it to a new HQ, I shrugged and wrote it off to a massive defection of demoralized (probably, knowing the Japanese, radically undersupplied) Korean labor battalion conscripts. [:D]

I actually had te same problem in a stock Scen 15 campaign. It pretty much happens every time a ship-based squadron upgrades. LIke it was said, this is no game breaker though.
