wernerpruckner -> Australia based A/C wont fly.... (3/29/2008 11:49:57 AM)

in the game vs Castor my air forces in Australia wont fly any combat sorties against his troops.
I have enough supply and base forces
there is no enemy CAP above the advancing troops.....

also only few recce missions are flown ( one recce sortie per 20 ordered....)

weather above the bases is usually nice
the same above the advanceing enemy troops

This is going on for the last 20 or so turns.....and it is annoying as hell, because without disrupting the advancing force via air I maybe not be able to stop his 20+ advancing units

Swift is right, there seems no reason why his bombers shouldn´t attack my troops. First I thought the range was to high (I guessed the higher the range the less attacks), but now I´m just a couple of hexes away from his major airbase. [&:]

wernerpruckner -> RE: Australia based A/C wont fly.... (3/29/2008 12:47:31 PM)

there were 2 squadrons and one group of Fortresses here and they did not fly a single mission, and they should have had enough range.....the same for the Hudson, not really a great ground attack A/C, but enough range....

and its not one airbase, the combat sorties are flown by none of the bases - Charters Towers & Townsville & Cairns
the same also for Alice Springs

I am not amused....and it takes a ong way before I get into this mood......( because I am not a choleric as Castor [;)]  )

I know the feeling, I recently had those bases with air balances in or over 1000 supplied and supported not fly for days while the Kb sailed around - weather was mainly good - aside from the smoke clouds from my devastated ships!

Finally one pathetic raid flew and was chewed up.

Have no explanation for it.

Roger

You have my sympathy as the same thing more or less happened in my game vs Local Yokel

All I can say is check the other factors, fatigue, morale, air field size, remember 4Es rarely fly from small AFs.  I have never heard of a no fly bug, course that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Air HQ, if one is available would almost certainly help.

fatigue - not fatigued because no sorties flown for weeks.....
morale - high because no sorties flown for weeks
AF size - mmmmhhh
Charter Towers 8; Townsville 5, Cairs 5, Cooktown 3, Alice Springs 6
no sorties except very few recce missions.....they do not even fly LRCAP
supply 20k+ in most bases
base forces - enough for the A/C that are supposed to fly......

Have you tried flying some escort fighters with the bombers?  Checked the bomber units to see you have leaders best suited to flying bombers?

I see that all the time in all of my pbems, even those that have "Advanced Weather" set to "Off".

My feeling is that it is some sort of Database issue that is parallel to some of the Land Movement Database issues that we all see.

All I know is that in a Game where Air Attacks are All Important, being unable to attack with the majority of your Air Units when you want throws the playability of the Game way out of whack.

from the northern bases, or from Rockhampton and farther south ( with Wellingtons and B17s ) ???

matchwood -> RE: Australia based A/C wont fly.... (3/30/2008 2:49:52 PM)

So you are taking his bases and his aircraft aren't attcking your troops?

Have you checked to see after taking a base what the HQ affiliation is? If Jap troops are at a Jap owned but AUS HQ affiliatyed base (which I have seen happen) maybe that could affect it?

not ( - yet - ) taking my bases, still 2 or 3 hexes outside Charters Towers, but my A/C did not attack his moving troops for more than 3 game weeks.......

wernerpruckner -> RE: Australia based A/C wont fly.... (3/30/2008 5:20:49 PM)

My air units started to make ground attacks as soon as I changed their command from Aussie to something else.....[X(][X(][X(]

Cap Mandrake -> RE: Australia based A/C wont fly.... (3/30/2008 6:01:22 PM)

Make sure you have the "Allied civilians as human shields" option turned off.

You may also need to file an Environmental Impact Report. You may have wetlands habitat to deal with or heavy metal contamination from your bombs. Lead is a big one but if you use any depleted uranium they will be all over you. I would suggest you stick with tungsten. Then there is the issue of aboriginal cultural history sites or even endangered species (golden shouldered parrot perhaps?). Make sure your HQ unit has a good legal arm or, even better, you could hire local help and spread a few bucks around.
I know it is odious but I would also recommend a good lobbying firm in Canberra. Also air shows are a huge PR bonus. Everyone loves the 17's. Also,, if you have some P-40's, paint the cool tiger teeth on the front. The kids love them. Good luck!

There you go. A jurisdictional issue. Don't let your guard down. Some nutbar will appeal.
