I'm getting back into the game after being away for about a year. Has any body noted that the jap carriers are not cost effective. Seems its better to just land or island base the carrier planes as the carriers are expensive and whats worse very vulnerable to USA attack. Seemsbetter to spend Jap resources on teching up carrier air rather than an expensive Pearl attack which is really the only time carriers seem needed. Chasing the isolated transport with a carrier cost too much. Japans best bet seems to tech up to the max as fast as possible fighter attack and defense.Build 10 or so and base them on an island with a couple of teched up torpedo carrier planes and wait for the USA fleet to try and penetrate this Jap perimeter defense. It works against the AI at the challanging setting.

In my oppinion, Jp carriers with tecked up cags can do just about anything japan needs to do and go anywhere Japan needs to go with the exception of invadeing Russia. Yes they do eat up a lot of supply when used, so choose your carrier missions wisely. I am looking forward to the future patch that stops cag attacks from doubling up on each carrier which can make them more survivable or at least more likely to be damage instead of destroyed. Then it will be more feasable to break them up into groups with naval fleet escorts and work different sectors of the map.

So to answer your post:
I think they are worth there cost now and more so after the future patch.
I think your defensive strategy you outlined can also be a good one for defensive play but It will only slow the US and not hold them back in my opinion.
