BP -> New Ship, Only 2 Combat Moves (3/19/2002 9:56:49 PM)

I built a new ship at a colony world. When completed and awaiting a mission, I sent it after pirates in the next system. When I got the notice to enter battle I was surprised to see that the new ship had no weapons (apparently, a world can build a ship without a space dock but only equips it with drive, computer, generator) - weird. So, before the pirate got close I did a "break battle" and assigned it to return to a world that had a spacedock. I then had to give combat navigational orders. I had two choices: forward and back - that's it. I spent ~12 turns with the pirate chasing me and my ship moving forward and it wouldn't kick into warp drive even though the engine was showing 100% charge. Eventually I got the idea to reassign combat control to the captain and it immediately warped out of the system. After getting outfitted with weapons, shields, etc. I again sent it after pirates (different system). When it entered combat it again had only forward & back choices for combat - bizzare. I was actually relieved when the pirate killed it in combat.

A world *always* build a ship with just drive, computer and generator. It expects you to configure it.

You only have 2 comat maneuvers for ships with 0% experience.

It's a strange post bp.
A ship is always built with the same standard (best drive(1)best computer(1) and best generator(1) ) tech and has 0% exp (you gain combat maneuvers with experience.
A ship usually tries to face the closest enemy in combat though, i'm surprised you could outrun your enemy for twelve turns always facing forward.

It's happen to me too though where after assigning my ship with a new mission while in combat, it would still ask me to maneuver. Just assign the new mission and hit space until it warps out.

That's where the artifact 100% experience comes in handy.
