MSO94 -> American Football Federation (4/16/2008 4:39:13 AM)

April 13th 1925. Detroit Michigan

With rumors running wild a couple of newspapers are stating a new football league has formed. The American Football Federation with teams in six cities across the Midwest.
Canton Bulls (Ohio), Columbus Tigers (Ohio), Chicago Pros(Illinois), Springfield Panhandlers(Illinois), Detroit Cougars (Michigan), Flint Ironworkers (Michigan), The teams joined together this last month to form the AFF. "We feel the game of Football is a real sport. Why should we only be able to watch kids in college play the game? Every College player is done after his four years why. The fans flock to the game in hundreds why should they not be allowed to continue to play the game they love.

We feel the OLD game of football was a little to slack in the way teams played and survived. We hope to put an end to the rage tag teams that play two games and fold. Each of our teams will pay the league to be a charter member. We can then have money to aid these teams in time of need.

There have been a couple of football teams that had some good players the last couple of years. But when Borax Soap stop wanting to sponsor them they had no place to go but away. We have a few Sponsors that have now become owners of these teams.

George Martin owner of Martin Chevrolet in Detroit has taken over the Ownership of the Detroit Cougars. They will play their games at Ypsilanti Field in Ypsilanti Michigan.

The other Michigan team owned by George Kohler will play in Flint off of Dort Highway at Flints James Stadium. Team owner George Kohler has been a fan of this game since he watched the University of Michigan play in 1910

Columbus Ohio's football team the Tigers will play at Dublin Field in Dublin Ohio just outside of Columbus. Jeff Turner a Train Engineer has taken over as owner of the team.

Jeff’s Brother Steve could not let his little brother beat him at anything. So Steve bought a team and will play in Canton the Bulls will play their games in Cantons new Jacobs Stadium.

Chicago was not going be one of the teams in the AFF. But Dean Brunson hearing that a new football team may be playing in Chicago he wanted to beat them at their own game. The Chicago Pros have now placed there name as the top team in Chicago. They plan to play at the new Wrigley Gum Field.

With Chicago already in Illinois a second team in the state was an easy choice. Springfield will be home to the Panhandlers as Frank Olafsson and Icelandic Pioneer. Brought his team to the state and the AFF.

The future of Professional football depends on a league showing the people this is not a kid’s game. We need to have people the fans want to get behind. With the country just getting over the Great War. And with Prohibition going on. We need something to take our minds off of the hard time. This we believe is the answer for the families in the Midwest. It’s a good game and we can have fun with it. Some of our players if they are not playing Football will be back at the factories and in the mines.

We want to be a real sport the people can stand behind. We can be that sport. Just give us the chance.

Here are a couple of newspaper items on the new league.

Make the website look like a newspaper and we will pretend to hold our monitors like newspapers and turn virtual pages [:)]
