PatinAZ -> EC2000 scenarios (4/16/2008 11:26:56 PM)

A question about the scenarios in the retail package. I have not seen the EC2000 scenarios before. Did not have time to study them closely yet, but the campaigns appear to be very similar to the EC2003 scens, with a theme of EC and Russian cooperation that the US and remaining allies must deal with.
Any comments from forum users on these scenarios and favorites for playing thru as one side or the other ??

The EC2003 scenarios are the same as the EC2000 scenarios, just with a few tweaks and a MUCH more reasonable set of range figures in the US part of the aircraft database. I've always liked the last scenario in the IOPG as Blue.

The included scenarios don't all use the same database? I was thinking they all used the HCDB, but there may be details here that I've never paid attention.

That being said I tried a couple of the scenarios and I see it must be true. That last Scen from the IOPG battleset being one of them. I started it up in EC2000. The carrier groups are initially out of range to strike the airbases and you have to sail in towards them for a few hours of game time. I put up some interceptor groups and AEW from the East and West carrier groups. When the fighter groups reached Bingo fuel - not the warning at 10% but the return NOW warning at 0% - I did the return to base. I noted that on cruise setting there is a considerable speed difference between Low and Med altitudes. And the groups started running out of fuel and crashing on the way home! And not the last 50 miles, they came up short. When this happened the 3rd time, I quit the scenario. Obviously there must be a range difference on the different altitudes, but no info tells me what it is.
I then opened the scen on the EC2003 battleset. In playing the same way, I did not get any surprises where the fighters crashed.

So how do the different battlesets use a different DB? I thought only one was loaded at one time, and they had to be swapped out by playing with the file names.

The HCDB is only used for the four EC2003 battlesets and WestPac. All the prior battlesets use their own built-in databases, which the user cannot touch in any way, and which load in and out automagically as needed. Thus, for example, the Su-27 found in the original GIUK battlset is an entirely different affair from the Su-27 in the EC2000 GIUK battleset.
