Saso -> Coordinate Air Attack (4/24/2008 3:47:21 PM)

Sometimes happens that my air attacks don't start togheter and this cause me some headaches.
I'm happy that my guys attack the enemy but I'd like that they attack togheter...

Example:
Singapore
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 22 Escort
Ki-46-II Dinah x 3
Ki-15 Babs x 2

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 6
P-40B Tomahawk x 9
P-40E Warhawk x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed
Ki-15 Babs: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Buffalo I: 3 destroyed
P-40B Tomahawk: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on 22nd Indian Brigade, at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
Ki-21 Sally x 47 Ground Attack

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 3
P-40B Tomahawk x 8
P-40E Warhawk x 2

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 2 destroyed, 6 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 1 damaged

Allied ground losses:
49 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Singapore Fortress, at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
Ki-21 Sally x 34 Ground Attack

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 3
P-40B Tomahawk x 8
P-40E Warhawk x 2

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 2 destroyed, 6 damaged

Further info:

- I'm attacking from Khota Bharu;
- in the bases there's an Air HQ;
- all aircrafts did have the same target selected.

How I can to resolve this problem? [&:]

You can't solve the problem. It's a die roll. Putting an air HQ there helps.

You roll your dice and you take your chances.

Sad to hear this...[:(]

Thanks Mike Solli [:)]

Feinder -> RE: Coordinate Air Attack (4/24/2008 4:36:38 PM)

There have been many times where my "sweep" mission flies -AFTER- my bombing mission (and that often without escorts).

Needless to say, things get bloody when that happens.

coordinating strikes do happen , just rarely.
The manual shows penalties to Carrier aircraft but not sure it applies to LBA.

7.2.2.11 Coordinating Strikes

Each base or ship containing an air unit is considered a unique entity for purposes of determining
offensive Missions and Escorts. Under certain circumstances planes flying different Missions and
planes flying from different starting points will coordinate their attacks.

During the Resolution Phase the computer forms up airstrikes from each base/ship depending on
the orders the air units have been given and the information those units have about the enemy’s
forces. Planes that are performing offensive Missions and their accompanying Escorts, all flying
from the same base/ship to the same target hex, will fly together even if they have different
Missions.

For example, you could have 3 bomber units flying together from the same airfield, with 1
each to bomb an airfield, a port and a ground unit within the same target hex. These
bombers could be accompanied by 2 fighter groups flying escort and another fighter
group flying a Sweep Mission.

A plane flying a Recon Mission could also accompany them.
Airstrikes from different bases/ships flying to the same target hex will approach the Target
together if the range to the target hex is the same. This allows aircraft carriers to coordinate their
attacks. However, before the attacks are made, there is a chance that some of the units will
become separated from each other and this may result in piecemeal attacks on the target.

In addition, a unit may escort attacks originating at another base/ship if the escorting unit has a
Target that matches the target beingattacked, and the escorting fighter is closer to the target than
the aircraft being escorted. Occasionally this can occur even if no priority target is set for the
escorting unit.

The coordination of airstrikes is affected by how many Carrier aircraft are based in the TF
launching a strike. The chance of uncoordination is doubled under the following circumstances:

Allied TF in 1942 and the number of aircraft in the TF is greater than 100 + rnd (100).
Allied TF in 1943 and the number of aircraft in the TF is greater than 150 + rnd (150).
Allied TF in 1944 or later or a Japanese TF at any time and the number of aircraft in the
TF is greater than 200 + rnd (200).

For ground/port/airfield attacks it's generally better to rotate targets from turn to turn than split the targets every turn; although this makes it more likely that no planes at all will fly due to weather.

Right! I lost 30+ Betty's in a single turn, the problem is that I'm playing the Guadalcanal scenario...[:(]

Not rarely, surely it happens when I put too many aircraft on the same airfield...

One thing I learned, don't use recon missions in the same airfiled where from start other air attacks [sm=nono.gif]

If you are flying different missions to the same target hex (ie. airfield and ground attack) then they will always fly separately. As previous posters have said it is a die roll. So to increase the chance of co-ordination only fly one type of attack mission against each target hex. It might help a bit.

Of course if you have air superiority then it's not necessary [:D]
