jcorbin -> Stacking (4/26/2008 5:43:24 PM)

Hi everyone. New to this very promising game. Running the latest patched version (1.15). Game manual on page 43 presently states: "Stk -Stack points of the unit. The amount of Stack Points a subformation contributes to the Stack Value of a hex. Once this limit is exceeded, no more units or subformations may occupy it." I understand the first two sentences. Unfortunately, the second sentence does not appear to be revealing itself in the game. It seems I can move as many land units as I wish into any given hex, with no apparent stacking penalty. For example, in an edited version of the latest WAW scenario, I have just moved 10 units into a Low Mountain hex with no road. One would expect a fairly restrictive stacking penalty in this case. Instead, the hex presently displays "418 Stack Points". Now I am assuming from the mouse-over description that appears on the "Stk field" that I will be penalized if I go to attack out of a single side of this hex with so many units. The mouse-over specifically states: "Stack points on the hex. Stack limit is at least 100 pts or if more: 50 per side of attack." If the "Stack limit is at least 100 pts" and I currently have 418 points in the hex, what will my penalty be? Doing a Find search on the word "stacking" or the phrases "stack limit" or "stacking limit" on the existing PDF of the manual reveals nothing. Would Vic or an experienced player be kind enough to fully explain the stacking rules in this game? Where are the so-called "Stack Values" of a hex defined (either in the manual or the editor)? For example, in the Editor, when I click a given hex, the "Stk field" always shows a question mark. When I subsequently click the Hex button, the fields don't reveal anything about stack values. The same is true for the Landscape Types (and their respective Property Sheets). Can I move as many units as I desire into a given hex, regardless of the presence of roads or terrain, then only incur a penalty when I go to attack out of that hex? If so, what are these penalties? Lastly, are there any settings related to stacking in the Editor? Thanks in advance... JC
