Is there any way to change sides midway through the game??? I'm good with manipulating minor files.

I'd love to get out of some of the fixes I put the North into. For instance, when I start winning big as the South, the North still has maybe 100,000-150,000 men in garrison. I'd love to try and pull them out and see what mayhem they can deal.

Edit the .sve save game file.  Be sure to use a text editor that can handle the very long lines; some editors insert carriage returns and corrupt the file.  Search for the leader name in the file... it'll something like "Lincoln".  The number immediately following the leader name is the "IsComputer" number: if it's 1, that nation is AI; if it's 0, it's not.  Change both these to the desired values, save the file.  I can't guarantee it'll work perfectly, but these are the proper values to change.
