explorer2 -> Air Interception Questions (5/14/2008 1:58:41 AM)

I know the mechanics of sending a unit on air interception, but what happens behind the scenes I'm woefully ignorant of. Here's my questions:

What happens with the defending unit when doing air interception?
Can it only do one interception per turn? How many (if any) AP points used for an interception? Does intercepting have any affect on the unit's next turn?

Is intercepting air recon missions any different from intercepting any kind of bombing mission?
Since the recon unit when not intercepted only goes 2 rounds, if it is intercepted, does the combat also only go 2 rounds?
Are there combat bonuses for being the defending (intercepting) unit?

Game implications: If I have a unit of 5 fighters, set to intercept, and the enemy does a recon mission with one fighter that I intercept, I assume my 5 fighters will kill his one fighter. But will my 5 fighters be able to do ANOTHER interception that same turn if he flies another mission in my vacinity? If I can, will there be any penalties from having already flown one interception?

I know this is detailed and tedious, but it sure makes a difference in how I use air power. Thanks for any insight anyone has!

a) The defender can intercept  multiple times, until readiness drops below the level set for intercepting
b)  No AP are used
c) Yes, each intercept will cost some readiness. The recovery of readiness will cost additional supply.
d) Yes recon intercepts are only 2 rounds, bombing intercepts last until the attacker is out of AP or retreats
e) In Stock yes since the defending combat value is higher than the attacking combat value.
