Sayar -> Japanese 4e in CHS (5/31/2008 2:12:41 AM)

I have one plant producing Liz 4e bombers (0-0 capacity)
However i didn't found nor replacements nor airgroups that able to upgrade to Liz.
Is there any way to get this planes?

You have two groups that fly them, if I remember correctly.

what are their names and when they arrives?

Two Betty groups which are on the map from the start can upgrade to Liz. I'm not 100% about the names, but check the Kanoya air groups first.

thanks
they are G1 and G2 takao daitais

Mike Solli -> RE: Japanese 4e in CHS (5/31/2008 5:47:36 AM)

Yup, and once you upgrade one of them, then any IJN LB daitai or chutai can upgrade to the Liz.

Yes, I have 4 Daitai's that are Liz's in a CHS against my arch nemesis (Wa). They seem to be more robust for bombing runs, kind of like a poor man's B17. I acutally like them and take a bit of (virtual) satisfaction that 4E's are finally delivering some payback to those Allies..... The drawback is they suck up engines production (Nakajimas) and I found it impacted my plane production until I had built up the squadrons. So word of advise is to watch the number of planes you build as they can hamstring your engine / plane production balance very quickly.

I have 2 groups and my production is set at 15 a month. Frankly, they arent that great. 13 hex range (compaired to Betty/Nell at 17) and a maneuver rating of 4 (escort them!). They have an 8000 pound payload which is nice, but for workhorse duty I prefer the Betty.

Yakface -> RE: Japanese 4e in CHS (6/3/2008 2:31:49 AM)

The Liz is a much better bomber for land targets than the Betty/Nell/Francis. The Liz carries 4x500Kg bombs where the others default to only 2x25oKg. Liz is also much more likely to survive damage with it's higher durabiiity.

Yamato hugger -> RE: Japanese 4e in CHS (6/3/2008 3:28:03 AM)

Well everyone has their way of doing things. Its been my experience that speed and maneuver mean more than durability. Durability is fine vs flak, but it also makes the damaged planes harder to repair.

As for effectiveness against land targets, that depends on what your target is. In stock (which I never play anymore) I used to use the Lily as my primary airfield attack plane as the numbers of bombs (Lily carries 8 100kg) meant more than size of bombs for shutting down airfields. Size of bombs might matter for damaging factories ect, but as for shutting down runways and scragging off planes on the ground, numbers are better than size. And as the Japs, this is by far my most common use of land based bombers.

Now as I already said, I DO use the Liz, just not in great numbers.

sorry - I didn't mean to imply I tought you were doing it wrong. Like you say many different ways of achieving the same ends.

something I have noticed is that, although the runway hits are the same per bomb, larger bombs get a lot more supply hits. I suspect that there is some damage threshold bombs have to exceed to get a supply hit and so larger bombs are ore effective in this aspect.
