hopej -> # of turns (3/28/2002 8:31:31 PM)

How do you know how many turns are in a scenario? Is there any other way to find out what turn you are on other than saving? I did read the manual, but I must have missed something.

I just started playing, but I keep getting surprised when it ends quickly.

Playing Stalingrad. Tough to get a victory on the advance. I take the objectives, but I must be taking to many casualties.

Great game by the way. :)

Put your mouse over the box in the upper right cornet that shows the weather and a pop up box will tell you the turns.

Games can (but not always it seems) end early and unexpectedly when one side holds all VH & the other has its morale broken. I have also seen games end early when one side owns all but one of the VH but this does not seem to always happen.

Move yr mouse curson on the little screen at top right, above the buttons, and wait a bit; after a little while you'll get a info box popping out with infos on the battle, included the turn # you're actually playing

The following remarks do not aply to the Mega Campaigns, which have their own victory and turn rules.

If you want a Decisive Victory as a sure thing: Occupy all the VH's by the halfway point plus one. Ex: If a twenty turn scenario or regular campaign battle, be in possession of ALL VH's by turn eleven. The "per turn" VH's change the approach slightly but not much. Rule of thumb is the same: Halfway point plus one turn.

The above is against the AI - and does not apply to online H2H play. We did one where the German was totally wiped out but the game continued anyway. The German surrendered to end the game.

I had a 25 turn battle end after 14. I had all of the VH's, but still got a draw. I also killed most of his units including the HQ.

Also had a defend end after 3 turns with a decisive victory. I caused few casualties but his force moral was broken.

Hi!

If and when the force morale is broken depends on the HQ unit. If the HQ unit has high (experience , morale or both - I'm not sure) values, the force won't break (unless the HQ is destroyed).

Once the enemy is broken and you have all victory hexes, the game will end.

In the 14-turn-battle you described this was happening - on turn 14, you had all VHs occupied, and the enemy was breaking.

The victory level is determined by the score. If you have 3 (?) times as many points as your enemy, you will receive a moderate victory; If you have 8 (9? I'm not sure about this) times as many points, you will receive a decisive victory.

Your decisive victory after turn 3 was because you didn't loose much (any?) units and received the victory points for holding the victory hexes and the victory points for killing the enemy units.

Your draw in the 14-turn-battle was because the enemy caused enough casualties to prevent you from achieving a 3:1 ratio in victory points.

Hope this helps,
Roland

Yes, I forgot to mention: You also have to kill a lot more of the enemy than you lose.

The formula I gave doesn't ALWAYS work, but it certainly has many times for myself. What happens is that by the time I have gained control of all the VH's, a considerable amount of damage has been inflicted upon the AI enemy.

Force morale broken is the normal outcome, then termination with a DV. There are ways the designer can make sure this doesn't happen - I've tested scenarios that are outright unwinnable.

Was this a LV or other MC scenario? I had some problems in the victory level and it turned out that there were some unintenionally hidden VHs.
