DE679 -> FNG Questions (6/3/2008 4:25:39 AM)

Hello everyone! I would like to congratulate you all on one fine forum, and Matrix on one great game. I have become hooked on WitP since I bought it a couple months ago. Several times while playing I said to myself, "I will go to bed after next turn" only to find that its 5:30 am and Hey! time for work! A long long time ago in the Infantry we used to play a game called Eagle and the Sun. (With tons of house rules) Imagine my surprise when I found this all done with computer! I have been looking around this fourm and am impressed with many here. Seems most here are more knowlegable than most Historians and Historical TV shows. My hats off to you. The questions I had are:

1) In Base Infromation Screen on some bases it states "Aviation Supporrt 75 + 15" The +15 means that there is Research and Development at this base? If so what kind, and can you control it?
2) The Essex class named replacements Lexington II, Yorktown II, and Hornet II will not show up at their historical times If the first ships are not sunk?
3) When you disband an air unit. The planes and pilots transfer over to the other unit a pop up says "Reform in 90 Days" Does the reformed unit come back with full complemet of plans and pilots. if so, could you keep disbanding units into one to get a large say 72 plane airgroup?
4) This question I have been agonizing over for weeks now, and do not know what to do. I would like your help. Should I post in The Thread, or the Anti-Thread?

Thanks in advance!
Respectully, John

1) In Base Infromation Screen on some bases it states "Aviation Supporrt 75 + 15" The +15 means that there is Research and Development at this base? If so what kind, and can you control it?
The +15 is the Seaplane-Floatplane-Floatfighter support.  It's because you've got an AV or AVD or CS based there.  Those ships add their support to those types of planes only.

2) The Essex class named replacements Lexington II, Yorktown II, and Hornet II will not show up at their historical times If the first ships are not sunk?
Those "2" ships are reserved for "respawns" (get ready for flame-fest).  The actual ships do not arrive from the historical time-table.  But if an USN CV is sunk, it will "respawn" as a "2" in something like 18 months or whatever.  Note that RN CVs do NOT respawn.  And as a side-note, USN and RAN CAs and CLs will respawn as either Brooklyn class CAs or Cleveland class CLs.

3) When you disband an air unit. The planes and pilots transfer over to the other unit a pop up says "Reform in 90 Days" Does the reformed unit come back with full complemet of plans and pilots. if so, could you keep disbanding units into one to get a large say 72 plane airgroup?
If you do not reform the unit, it is permanently destroyed (so don't ever "not reform").  If you do reform the unit, the planes and pilots are drawn from your pools.  Note that if you're very low on say RAF pilots, you're going to draw a bunch of crappy pilots (-15 exp)

4) This question I have been agonizing over for weeks now, and do not know what to do. I would like your help. Should I post in The Thread, or the Anti-Thread?

Well, it hasn't taken you long to figure out the REAL reason why people visit this forum so much...

ALl hail the thread(and daerht-itna for Tom)[;)]

"will respawn as either Brooklyn class CAs"

Uhh... Feinder, what have you been smoking tonight? First you talk about Cleveland class DDs, and now you mention Brooklyn class CAs. The respawns will either show up as Baltimore class CAs or Cleveland class CLs (the Brooklyn class CLs were prewar vessels).

BTW: I do tend to choose "Do not reform" when disbanding the Dutch squadrons during the Japanese advance in '42. You only receive enough replacement pilots for a few Dutch squadrons as the war progresses, so it doesn't really help to have all of them in operation.

Gem35 -> RE: FNG Questions (6/3/2008 6:40:13 AM)

tough crowd tonight.[;)]

Seems to me he was trying to be helpful. And you attack his post, even if its incorrect at least say so graciously. I see Feinder posting quite frequently in a helpful manner.

Feinder -> RE: FNG Questions (6/3/2008 1:31:52 PM)

Thanks Sheytan, but I'm fairly certain bradfordkay was just ribbing me.  Unfortunately, the internet doesn't distinguish between good natured ribbing and threats to bodily harm very well.

While I haven't "been smoking anything", I have been on-call for the last week and have gotten about 3 hours of sleep each night (no, I'm not a doctor by the way, no worries).  So I'm a little off my game (and wisely decided to not attempt the turn in my inbox).  But I'm off-call now (going to bring an appeasement to the gods of bagels on behalf of the next victim), so it's "once more into the breach!".

Yes, that was a joking post. I'm glad that Feinder took it in the manner that it was intended...

Those who have been here awhile will tell you that I don't really attack anyone here. If I disagree with anyone's post it will be done politely.

If I'm teasing someone (and that will almost always be someone who has been here a long time), then all bets are off... [;)]

DE679 -> RE: FNG Questions (6/4/2008 1:44:39 AM)

Thanks so much for the quick response Feinder. After running a couple more turns I have another question. When you transfer an airgroup to another base sometimes it shows up at the new base with all damged planes, and sometimes not. I know planes do prang alot at smaller bases, it it because of that, or lack of aviation support? It is good to see you and bradfordkay were only kidding around. I would have felt bad if my post caused ill will.

Thanks, John

Oldguard1970 -> RE: FNG Questions (6/4/2008 2:34:50 AM)

If you do a rail transfer, the planes are crated and arrive "damaged".  You can tell it is a rail transfer because there will be a -r after the base on the transfer option screen.  If the planes transfer by air, you will sometimes have a few damaged.

Feinder -> RE: FNG Questions (6/4/2008 2:52:27 AM)

Also when you unload from an AK, they're all damaged.

And beware, there is a "feature" that if you transfer off an airgroup from a carrier in a base hex (maybe you were shuttling an extra squadron of P-40s), they will also be damaged.  You must "undock" the TF, and THEN transfer them.

Personally, I find this very annoying.  While there is a degree of realism that says docked carriers would unload by crane (and thus crate/damage the aircraft), the fact a choice that I would never chose is the default is annoying.  I must remember to undock, transfer, re-dock.  Again, why would I ever -choose- to damage all my aircraft?  Bleh.  I can't tell you how many times I've gone "Awe sh_t, when was the last time I backed up my turn.." because of that "feature".

In that event I withdraw my comments! [;)]

2 towers of strength on these forums.[&o]

bradfordkay -> RE: FNG Questions (6/4/2008 8:52:05 AM)

"Tower of Strength"?? Feinder for sure... that other guy is just a Groucho wannabe who inflicts his own wierd sense of humour on the nice folks on this forum... [:'(]

DE679 -> RE: FNG Questions (6/5/2008 12:24:39 AM)

Thanks again! The air groups were making the transfer by rail. Did not know what the r was for, and I was not undocking the transport CVE. This game has so many deatails and nuances that I need to go back and read the manual a couple more times. Run many more turns before I bug you guys with more questions. You say than AE is coming out soon? The wife unit is realy going to like that one. The honey do list is getting long!

Thanks,  John.

PS. Can I post in the Thread now?
