Well, you are confusing something. The very good game against Poland was in the world cup, 2 years ago. In the Euro 2008, our team only won because the Polish played even worse. Watch the interviews after that game again: No one was satisfied, because there was no reason to be satisfied. All said "We need many improvments." Only after the abysmal performance against Austria, people suddenly talked about a "good" or even "very good" game against Poland...

Btw: I like the new flag [:)].

Sure Poland was bad, but I would not say the german play was bad in that particular match. The missed chances to score in the last 10-15 minutes were bad though. They always say "we need many improvements", it has become a standard phrase [;)]

Anyway, I do not care if they play the one or other game bad, the main point is we win enough matches

Viva Espaņa! [:)][:)][:D]

Nixuebrig -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/29/2008 9:38:56 PM)

Gracis Espana!!! [&o][&o][&o]

Better team, better fighting spirit, better players.

Metzelder and Hitzlsperger should hang their boots on a nail, football is not what they are best at....

Deserved victory, by a far to low margin

Terminus -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/29/2008 9:47:30 PM)

Germany definitely deserved to lose that game. It was a pathetic display.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/29/2008 10:20:24 PM)

Maybe not "pathetic" but that's what Germany is showing since 1998... I remember an important German football personage (Beckenbauer?) said after that 98 WC (or was it before?): "France has Zidane, Italy has Baggio and we've only got... Jeremy". This Jeremy was the big German star or "menace", as you prefer... And YES, that personage was being SARCASTIC because that player was quite mediocre. A cruel, harsh comment, but he said it [8D]

Anyway, they still managed to play some finals (2002 WC and tonight). Not too bad for a decadent football team. Wich makes you realize how perfect the "Old German Football Machine" was. When it worked 100%, I mean [8D]

Nixuebrig -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/29/2008 11:17:55 PM)

Don`t forget 2006, that was a good performance, only lost to tactical better (but not better playing) italians. ANd something like this was missing today, an impulse from the bench, a tactic change. They played their piece of junk for 90 Minutes without trying something else.

And remember , it was the final of the Euro, it doesn`t make me sad, it makes me angry. Normally, you don`t have the chance to win the Euro often, so I expect them to fight to the last Minute.

Absolutely uninspired perfomance.

Edit: Maybe players like Jeremies (or Eilts, or Sammer) are missing. Brave fighters who can lead the team.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/30/2008 12:12:38 AM)

Anyway... are you sure Ballack isn't cursed?? [X(]

Lost finals... A lot.

1) Champions League:
a) playing with Leverkussen
b) playing with Chelsea -- just one month ago [:D]

2) World Cup
a) against Brazil on 2002

And then tonight [X(]

That's it

Anyway, we had a nice party unitl now and I'm going out on the street again, when I had my coffee. [:)]
The better team won - and hey, we are second - not the worst, especially as I grant the title to the spaniards [:)]

Problem I see: We are secon, we are notbad, so nothing will change. 2010, if we don`t make it like England this Euro we will make it like France 2002.

I`ll say it in german: Das Spielverhalten und der Spielaufbau heute hat mich entsetzt, bzw eben nicht, weil davon nichts vorhanden war.

Translation: I was shocked by the none-existance of playmaking skill. If you have an attacker (and later two) who are best at heading, than you should play over the wings and not only long english style, esp. when you spot the spanish wingbacks as the soft spots.

Think i will rant until Schalke won the CL-Final the coming season [:D]

VSWG -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/30/2008 8:41:16 PM)

Congrats to Spain!

Of course I never gave up hope for a late German goal, so that we could go into overtime, and then to penalty kicks (which Germany wins by definition [;)]) - but I have to admit that it would have been completely undeserved. The better team won, and I'm glad that the championship was won by a team that plays such beautiful and offensive soccer. Kudos! [:)]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/30/2008 11:30:46 PM)

Sort of funny (taken from the Guardian), as epilogue:

Worst fans: Poland. Violence, arrests, nasty drunkenness from some. Like England's old-school hoolies, but more spontaneous.

Least dignity: Raymond Domenech. France coach revealed how Holland would cheat his side out of the tournament by letting Romania win in the final group match. 'Holland will make wholesale changes - it is already written that Romania will qualify with them from the group.' Holland won 2-0; France lost to Italy.

Best-phrased sacking. Italian FA. 'While confirming to Roberto Donadoni our sincere personal admiration and appreciation for the reliability and skilled professional work which marked his time at the helm, we're not renewing his contract.'

There goes my money[:(][:(] ( refer to my reply page 16) And now on to the World Cup, where further acts of atrocities shall be committed.

Joram -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (7/1/2008 3:59:36 PM)

Well good for Spain.  They have always had a lot of talent but never performed as well as they should as a team.  Guess you can't say that any longer.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (7/1/2008 7:57:27 PM)

From what I have read on some British blogs, forums these last days a fresh new verb has been invented... "To get Ballacked"...

If I well understood the whole thing, on a WitP context we might say from now on: "on my PBEM there was a huge battle. I was supposed to massacre my opponent (i.e. sink his CVs) and achieve a huge victory. But hey, he annihilated my naval forces, decimated my planes and destroyed a complete division at sea. [:(]In other words, I got Ballacked![:(]" [:D]
