Hey devs,

The current WitP patch is 1.806. So does this extension push vanila Witp to a differnent or higher patch number or is it strictly an extension without Witp bug fixes?

Is it a stand alone extention that could be used with Witp v1.0[sm=vomit-smiley-020.gif] ?

Thanky!

Gem35 -> RE: This expansion (6/8/2008 6:55:02 AM)

It will have it's own version, AE is an expansion and will have nothing to do with any witp current install.

  How can that be?   We (think we)understand that
AE will need Witp to be installed / present / somewhere in the universe.
....nothing to do with any witp current install doesn't make sense. [&:] Sounds like a total stand alone game.
Does it do a directory check of your hard drive to see if you've bought Witp and then proceed with install only if you have?
Hmmmmm?

rjopel -> RE: This expansion (6/8/2008 4:23:22 PM)

I think he's refering to the version # that you have for WITP.  AE is not (imo) patch 1.9 (or whatever) but a seperate add on extension to WITP.

Terminus -> RE: This expansion (6/8/2008 4:41:14 PM)

Correct.

Therefore you could run AE with version 1.0 of Witp if you wanted to or dared to.[sm=duel.gif]

Terminus -> RE: This expansion (6/9/2008 3:07:00 PM)

No.

Rainer -> RE: This expansion (6/9/2008 5:30:37 PM)

What patched version is needed then to run AE?

Terminus -> RE: This expansion (6/9/2008 7:15:18 PM)

Post #2 in this thread is correct.

Rainer -> RE: This expansion (6/9/2008 8:33:39 PM)

You mean this?

Then your short reply to rhohltjr doesn't make sense and rjohltjr is correct.

m10bob -> RE: This expansion (6/9/2008 8:48:49 PM)

Prior posts have mentioned that the AE expansion will be an add on to WITP with its' latest (most recent) patch... It would therefore not work well on vanilla (un-patched) WITP as it had bugs you would not believe, (unless you had been there).

Terminus -> RE: This expansion (6/9/2008 9:02:50 PM)

AE is not an add-on; that implies it installs on top of stock WitP 1.806, which it doesn't.

I admit it, I am now confused.

All along it has been implied that you needed WITP to play WITP-AE.

If this in fact is not the case, and as it appears in Terminus's post it isn't.

And the mob goes wild...

Alexander Seil -> RE: This expansion (6/9/2008 10:41:15 PM)

If it has a different executable (which it naturally does), a different map, a different database and different scenarios (on a different map), why would you even need WitP? Seems like it should be stand-alone, with a discount for people owing WitP. There certainly shouldn't be any reason to keep TWO unrelated installs on the same PC if you only intend to play AE.

Terminus -> RE: This expansion (6/9/2008 10:54:58 PM)

It IS stand-alone. That's what we've been saying.

cantona2 -> RE: This expansion (6/10/2008 12:39:05 AM)

Think of it as a brand new game. You can run TOAW without Witp and you will be able to run AE without Witp

From the annoucement for WITP-AE.

The Admiral’s Edition expansion will require ownership of the original War in the Pacific game.
In the big picture this is a non-issue.

But I can see why people would be confused by the original annoucement and today's clearing the air by Terminus.

........and why the majority of us thought it to be an optional "add-on", like an ASL "add-on"...

Gem35 -> RE: This expansion (6/10/2008 1:34:29 AM)

Nevermind, disregard![;)]

jwilkerson -> RE: This expansion (6/10/2008 2:24:23 AM)

I have told the AE team to desist from trying to interpret Matrix' words regarding the relationship of WITP and AE. The decisions are in Matrix' court, not the AE Team. We are building the game they decide how to market and package it.

Matrix may already have a plan here or they may wait and decide later - but feel free to read their words in the official press releases and intepret for yourself. We know no more than you guys about the meaning of these words.

Erik Rutins -> RE: This expansion (6/10/2008 7:43:52 AM)

Seems like we had some confusion here. Let me reiterate what was in the press release to clear things up.

1. WITP AE will require WITP to be installed in order to install and play, but it does not require that the installation of WITP be updated, you could be running stock WITP v1.00 and that would be fine.
2. WITP AE will install in a separate location, so that you can still play the original WITP as well as the new WITP AE, once installed they will effectively function as separate games.

Regards,

- Erik

wworld7 -> RE: This expansion (6/10/2008 8:10:02 AM)

Erik,

Thanks, for clearing up the confusion (even if it was only me).

JamesM -> RE: This expansion (6/10/2008 8:41:10 AM)

Thank you Erik for that it cleared some of the confusion. One question though will this be reflected in the cost of the final game i.e. as an add on?

Erik Rutins -> RE: This expansion (6/10/2008 2:14:58 PM)

WITP AE will be priced lower than WITP, but we do not yet have an exact price point.

Cmdrcain -> RE: This expansion (6/10/2008 2:24:54 PM)

Don't any own say like Civilization III?

If do, you bdo recall need have Civ III to have installed expansions Play the World or Conquests?

When installed the Expansions they installed into own folders under the Civ III Folder  but
do not use the Civ III  program files, they have own,  I would think AE will be something similar and install separate or
install under  the WITP folder as a sub folder but  AE will run on its own..

Many game expansions are like that,  you still can play  Civ III itself  or PTW or Conquests  as their own game.

So also WITP/AE
