Please call back when it has an AI.

Many of your customers don't play this game PBEM.

then they are missing the best part of the game, for sure.

That my friend is irrelevant.

hardly irrelevant, but your view indicates to me more education is required here to show players what they are missing out on - thankyou for your feedback.

and your view indicates a myopic belief that anyone who doesn't agree with your viewpoint is ignorant and in need of being educated [:@]

assuming that anyone who doesn't choose to play this particular game via PBEM does so because of a lack of understanding of any potential benefits is childish

I am currently overcommitted to four PBEM games of Uncomon Valor as well as beta testing duites for Battles from the Bulge. I fill the gaps between those activities with solitaire play of games in the Decisive Battles series and this game. I do not play this game PBEM because I am busy with other activities , NOT because I am ignorant of the benefits of PBEM play and in need of being "educated".

The lack of an AI for these secenarios guarantees that I will not be playing them. The same can most likely be presumed for many others who purchased this game. Responding to a call from one of us to be reminded if, and when, an AI for the expanded scenarios becomes available in an insulting and condescending manner is NOT a very viable method for ensuring customer loyalty! crikey, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition...

Where did I specifically point out that your viewpoint was invalid?

I am firmly of the belief that all wargames, regardless of what format they take - should be played against another human player, and this game is no exception.

I reckon this is an area where more input is required from SSG/Matrix to encourage players to try out the PBEM option (as it's so easy within this series) and I will try and do my bit to help that along.

Truely, no ill will here at all.

Good luck with your PBEMs

cheers Chris

John Schettler, put a lot of work into the Stalingrad scenario. I did take a look and I have to say I'm very impressed with John's quality work. The map looks great and is well researched; based on maps from Stalingrad 1942. The order of the battle is just as well done with very strong focus on historical accuracy. The Stalingrad scenario is a true work of art; very well profesionally done. I have asked John about AI and was told that it's definitely planned for the future, sometimes this summer. So please be patient, AI is coming. It takes a lot of time and hard work to produce a great great quality scenario. First you have to do a lot of research, then to port it all into a particular computer wargame engine, then you have to test and balance things out.

Peter

HansBolter -> RE: User Created Scenario - Stalingrad Available (6/13/2008 8:14:28 PM)

I apologize for apparently giving the wrong impression.

Perhaps my fisrt post was too curt and and upon reflection a bit flippant.

I never intended to demean the effort put into creating any of the new scenarios.

All I was asking for was a heads up on these boards if and when any of the new scenarios have an AI developed for them.

It does truly chap my rear end a bit the way there seems to be a divide betwem PBEMers and solitaire players on many of these boards. Unfortunately, many of us who choose to play various games solitaire often find ourselves being disparaged and belittled by those firmly entrenched in the "PBEM only" camp, who often belabour under the unfortunate delusion that they are somehow intellectually superior because they only play against live opponents. I guess my skin has grown a bit thin with regard to that particular problem on these boards.

I own and enjoy playing every game in the DB series including Across the Dnepr, as well as Battlefront. I have downloaded almost every player made scenario for them that includes an AI. I am currently thoroughly enjoying Fall Gelb in the spare moments between my other gaming committments.

As stated in my prior post, my reasons for playing this series solitaire have nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the benefits of playing PBEM and it does bother me that those who have a preference for PBEM seem to automatically jump to the erroneous conclusion that I, and anyone else who chooses to play solitaire, are in need of being educated regarding the merits of PBEM.

Again, apologies offered. No offense intended, none taken.

Howard7x -> RE: User Created Scenario - Stalingrad Available (7/8/2008 4:54:37 PM)

Hans, I too thought your comment earlier was a bit flippant and arrogant towards the scenario designer. But now you have explained yourself i understand. Sometimes being blunt, is being offensive...

I do however believe that these games should have AI. I know its difficult to code and takes a great deal of time to get right in the BF/DB engine. I think that once the scenario is ready for PBEM it should be released as it has been, without AI. If anything its great for playtesting. Stalingrad has already had updates since PBEM release. Once the AI gets here, it will be much more refined and balanced scenario.

I am looking forward to the AI being implemented as i too enjoy playing on my own as you can play through a scenario at your own pace (spend a whole day sometimes!) rather than playing a dis-jointed (in the sense that you have to wait for your next turn) PBEM game.

I think the key here is to respect both sets of players, not jump on one or the other for only wanting AI or PBEM.

cbelva -> RE: User Created Scenario - Stalingrad Available (7/8/2008 5:24:12 PM)

I think it should be pointed out that it is wrong to shoot the scenario designers regarding a lack of AI. The AI editor is complex and SSG did not provide any instructions on how to use it. I tried and finally gave up. It is a shame since many of us like to play games against the computer. I suppect that we will not be seeing any games with AI until a set of instructions (even basic ones) are provided by SSG. And since it appears that their interest has shifted to the new engine, I suppect that it will not happen.
