Japan.

Because it is harder. [:D]

I think I prefer Allies, but that is because I always play Japan and I can confirm - it IS harder - at least until late 44 ...

Japan. It's harder and question of honour[:D]

Chris21wen -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 10:52:46 PM)

Japan, its harder and there's more to control.  How sad is that.

Japan, because I haven't even reached journeyman status playing it.

Nixuebrig -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 11:18:17 PM)

against the AI the Allies, vs real opponents the Japs. Why? As the Allies you have the opportunity to go on the offensive later on, while as Japan the US offensive is not very challenging.

Or short, playing the AI , the AI gets the role where it is in a passive role.

lineartube -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 11:19:13 PM)

Never tried an Allied campaign. Always Japan, because has everyone said it, it is harder. After 1943, with the allied war machine well greased, they have little chance of winning. I think I first got interested in the economic aspect of the fight after I read this: http://www.combinedfleet.com/economic.htm

aztez -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 11:26:04 PM)

I do prefer to be allied because I want to make game harder for all the Japanese PBEM players! [:D][;)][:D]

Actually, just tried one PBEM as Japan and it takes too much time to setup everything.

I did enjoy the Japanese game too.

Japan -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 11:33:48 PM)

Interesting Replays.

For me, it is Japan, and Japan Only.

First, Because I love to kick the ass of the Allies throu the entire war, as thay are expected to win.
And second, I couldnt get my self to play the Nation with the Largest Indistrual Power, would be a boring walkover [;)] lool

(HiHi That was Pritty Arrogant, i know, Typical Japanese Style hihi)

Charbroiled -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 11:45:10 PM)

I like playing both the Japanese and the Allied. Japan because of the challenge, Allies because of all of the "toys".

For PBEM, I like playing Allies, because I have slow dial-up and it is easier to attach (1) 1.5 meg file then it is to attach (2) 1.5 meg files.

Mike Solli -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 11:52:12 PM)

Japan only.  Gotta play the underdog. [:D]

Canoerebel -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 11:52:41 PM)

Allies.  They are the good guys and patience is rewarded.  Besides, nefarious, calculating folks like Miller and John III like to play the Japs, so we beacons of light, freedom, and all things good need to keep them in their places.

Cuttlefish -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/16/2008 11:57:51 PM)

So far I have always played Japan. I continue to do so because I have the forlorn hope that maybe some day I will finally master Japanese industry and production. I would like to play the Allied side some time just to be able to wield that enormous late-game power, though.

The guy I started playing WitP with is a long-time computer wargaming buddy. I played Japan in my first game because we fell into the pattern a long time ago of me playing the "bad guys". That is, I always play the Confederacy in our Civil War games and the Axis powers in our WWII games. The only exception I can think of right off hand was "North Atlantic '86", where I played Nato and he played the Soviets.

niceguy2005 -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 12:03:26 AM)

In a PBEM I like playing the Allies because of the diversity of nations, weapons, etc.  Plus it's fun to stuff Japanese players early on. [:D]

Against the AI, I don't like playing the Allies, it's way too easy.  I think if you play through to the end of the grand campaign as Japan the even the AI might be challenging.

Myung -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 12:06:29 AM)

I have always tended to play Japan first in any ww2 game as generally it is harder. Once i master that side I will play the allies but it is usually pretty easy by that point.

LargeSlowTarget -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 12:06:49 AM)

Japan. 'Rising Sun beer' (aka Tsingtao beer) is so much better than Miller or Bud...  And because of the harder/honour/underdog/challenge reasons.

Przemcio231 -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 12:16:13 AM)

Allies as playing them till middle 44 is a challange contrary to the japs as its easy to play as them...

JeffroK -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 12:39:53 AM)

I find it hard to play in any wargame, a nation for which I have zero respect for their aggression and treatment of its enemies.  Its also easier for an agressor who chooses its time to make war against generally unprepared nations

In WITP, I see the Japanese having as big a battle for its economy/production as against the Allies, maybe this makes taking their side a more complete experience.  As many post, win the production battle and you have a better than even chance to win the game. I also believe that there are insufficient constraints against the japanese enabling them to occupy far gretaer areas than they IRL could.

bobogoboom -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 12:44:14 AM)

i play most of my games as japan cause it is hard to find allie players,

ny59giants -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 1:03:09 AM)

Allies - I have just started my first PBEM as Japan, but I have another game that did a re-start as the Allies (both are Empire's Ablaze). However, I seem to spend more time between turns thinking about strategy for my game as the Allies than the game as Japan which really needs more of my attention. I do like the economic management part of Japan. John 3rd has benefited from my enjoyment of learning that side pretty quickly. [;)]

I was always a better player of chess when I was Black. Thus, my like of the Allies is much of it is defensive early in the game and making the Japanese pay for errors in judgement.

Ahem....the Confederacy the bad guys? You must've grown up on the wrong side of the Mason-Dixon Line and don't enjoy a tall glass of ice tea!

(Seriously, I recognize the taint slavery imparts to the Confederacy, but down this way we all separate slavery and the Confederate army and nobody in his right mind wants to play the guys in blue).

Q-Ball -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 1:15:18 AM)

I have only played Japan, and like the challenge.

That being said, When AE comes out, I want to play one of EACH. I think playing JAPAN will make me a better Allied player.

Does everyone think switching sides makes you a better opponent? I do.

DD696 -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 1:21:27 AM)

For what it's worth, I only play as the allies against the AI. Reason, in real life the Japanese did their utmost to sink DD696 (USS English) and end the naval elistment and life of my father. Therefore, it is a family tradition to fight against the Japanese.

To counter this, however, I have found that the AI is quite incompetent at running the Japanese industry, therefore I have to go in and nudge the enemy in the right direction on a regular basis while playing a heavily modified CHS 2.08. This is a lesson sadly learned after numerous restarts. Hopefully, AE will be considerably more competent at managing the industry and running the war. The proof remains to be seen, though, as the competance and improvement of the AI is almost invaribly a taboo or ignored subject whenever information and knowledge is sought.

On a side note, referencing my thread of almost 2 years ago, it really was CHS: The End of the Line....except that nobody in the know was willing to admit it.

I've been a transplant since '92 and still consider myself a "Damn Yankee." [:D] Don't like ice tea, grits, and a few other "Southern" dishes. I still have trouble pronouncing certain words with a "southernese" style and locals continue to correct me. I may end up living down here for the rest of my life, but I'm still a New Englander at heart.

Gem35 -> RE: What side you you prefere to play, and why? (6/17/2008 1:34:48 AM)

The good guys, Always.
Partly because I don't like playing the Japanese and part because I am too dumb to try the production portion of the game.[:)]
hikotai detais hicuppais....hard enough to master the game let alone pronounce those air group names.[;)]

I grew up in Michigan and was raised on tales of the Iron Brigade, so I am most definately a Yankee. But I understand what you mean and that is why I put "bad guys" in quotes. We Michiganders bear no ill will to our brothers from the South. The ill will is reserved for those thieving Ohioans, aggressors of the Toledo War.

Just kidding about Ohio. The joke in Michigan is that "Michigan and Ohio fought a war over Toledo and Ohio lost."
