KG Erwin -> Trade Analysis: Ted Williams for...Erv Palica? (6/17/2008 12:17:34 AM)

So, I made this deal last night, and the Red Sox' response was: "We'd love to make this trade!" Now, before you think the AI GM had completely gone bonkers, I looked at it a bit closer. The Sox' disposition is: "Looking to get younger". Needs: pitching. In July 1947, Ted Williams is .276/10/42. He's 29 years old, has a POT of 11, and has a one year contract. 19 year old Erv Palica has a POT of 60, and is 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 4 saves. Plus, he has a 4-yr contract @ $28,458. The Red Sox are in 7th place, and are already in a rebuilding mode. Apparently they were thinking of letting Ted go to free agency at the end of the season, getting nothing in return. Instead, they get a good young pitcher who still has maybe ten years ahead of him. My Dodgers, in contrast, are in first place and are determined to make a pennant run. I signed Ted to a 2 year extension @ $68,551. I have adopted a "Just win, baby" attitude. I thought about it carefully, and decided that I was NOT taking advantage of the AI in this case. What do you guys think? Will Ted return to form playing in Ebbets Field? Could he be the final piece needed to get us to the Series and beat the damn Yankees? One more thing: did the inclusion of financials make all the difference?
